*Sorry if this thread was made already. I sincerely apologize if it has.
Have any of you wondered how many more years Bret Hart would've went if he did not have his concussion in late-1999 and stroke in 2002? I think Bret could have been one of those guys who could've went until he was 50 due to his grounded technical style and physical conditioning.
Had Bret not been injured, what happens to him? I say he returns to WWE for WrestleMania X8 in Toronto during 2002 and faces Vince in the main event.

his contract with the wwf that was canceled before the screw job had him promised to stay active till 50 I believe, and then a job in the back office waiting.
he discusses this at some point in Wrestling with Shadows

Years ago when I heard that Bret would be wrestling until 50 years old, I would cringe and laugh, thinking, "no way! That is too old." Then guys like Ric Flair and now with Chris Jericho turning 50 this year, it really isn't that old to be wrestling if you can still do it and do it well.

Yeah I think at some point in the early 2000s he would have returned and had a great program with Kurt Angle.

Unfortunately, he may have retired after WCW went out of business, with the exception of matches for multiple companies here and there. I imagine he would have just finished collecting his contract from WCW which would have kept him out of any other wrestling company until then, like Goldberg and others did. I don't see him going back to the WWF after WCW went under, though, he to me would have been the ideal leader of that invasion group - with all the stuff that happened, who else but Bret would have loved to see WWF get destroyed.

Didnt it take until 2004-2005 for Bret Hart to make amends with the WWE? If he was still going to be wrestling after WCW went out of business, he wouldve showed up in TNA first.

I think he would have been around til at least the early 2010’s. It would have been nice to see him wrestle guys like Kurt Angle, Rock, Brock (in his first run), and Jericho (not sure if they wrestled in WCW).

If anyone could have continued putting on great matches until they were 50, it was Bret. His style was tailor made for that.
And knowing that a guy like Brock Lesnar is 43, and Jericho 49, is proof of this. It also makes it more sad (and somewhat funny) that at 42, Vince felt Randy Savage was past his prime.

Would Bret have went back in 2001 or even 2002?? No way.
Would Bret have went back in 2005 or 2006 to wrestle?? Most definitely!
The guy went into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006, I am sure if he was able to wrestle actual matches he would have came back sooner and had a proper ending for his WWE career and for his wrestling career.
We ended up getting that in 2010 from Bret, but I could only imagine what he could have done in 2006 or in that area if he was still healthy.

As others have said, I think he sits out his contract with WCW and retires. I think it may have taken longer to make amends with Vince though - Bret says in his book that he and Vince started talking again after his stroke in '02. If Bret didn't have the stroke, I don't think Vince would've reached out to him on that personal level that started that healing process for Bret.

Just imagine the programs Bret could have had if he went back to WWE in that 2002-2007 period.
Kurt Angle - 2003/2004
Chris Benoit - 2004/2005
Eddie Guerrero - 2005
Chris Jericho - 2003/2004
Edge - 2006/2007
Randy Orton - 2005/2006
HBK (Again) - 2005
HHH - 2004/2005
The Rock - 2002/2003
John Cena - 2007
As well as great TV matches with guys like Regal & Finlay.

I think Bret would have kept going on a part-time basis until 2003. And we would have got the Bret vs Vince feud but way better than 2010.

I think without the stroke/complications of his concussion? The wrestling bug may have bitten Bret & with some guys he was friendly with doing some stuff for TNA? he would have too. Panda Energy were throwing around some pretty decent cash for guys. Angle vs Bret in TNA would have been superb too....

Now that I think about it, he probably would have ended up in TNA with Sting and Angle.

I think Bret could have been one of those guys who could've went until he was 50 due to his grounded technical style and physical conditioning. Maybe, or maybe not. As I watched Kurt Angle in his late 40s, I questioned whether or not he should be taking the risk of wrestling. It's been well-established that wrestling is detrimental to one's longevity, and in Angle's case, he was taking the risk while being a shadow of his former self. There was nothing wrong with Kurt per say, but he was much slower and not nearly as crisp as he was in his prime. As seriously as Bret took the business, had he sensed himself slowing down, my guess is that he would have become a part-timer or retired to protect his body of work and to focus on remaining healthy.
