How would you approach it?
I think they need to hit more eras. Like, specifically, Pedro Morales -- a great accompanying figure around the Bruno era and a world champ, a Pat Patterson in gear with that original IC belt, Ken Patera in olympic gear, etc.
Then you have the Hogan era. Why wouldn't you hit the Hogan figures super hard? They'd sell as he hasn't had that many figures and he has so many fans, obviously. He had different looks with red, white and Mr. America.
More tag teams -- 2-packs like they used to do. They're making another Beefcake -- why wouldn't you pair him up with Valentine and throw in those original tag belts? Could do rivalries and classic matches too -- like Tito and Muraco, Piper and Hart, etc. I'd ask for the Steiner Brothers but that seems like a dream never ever to be realized, lol.
I just feel like they are kind of missing the boat already with this re-introduction.

A Pedro Morales is long overdue. It’s a crime that he’s never had an LJN, Jakks CS or Mattel Legends.

Pedro is one of my most wanted figures. Always liked the orange/red of his attire, plus he spans multiple eras (WWWF and Golden Age).

The problem with any Mattel line dedicated to Legends is available talent. It’s like fantasy booking the Invasion when the people you try to use weren't available either. Hogan being pulled from later waves of HoF2, Defining Moments, and Sting being pulled from the new Legends wave really hurt I’m sure. Instead of selling a ton of Stings and Hogan’s and some of the others, there’s just pegs of Heenan and Razor like there was Tito’s. Also I believe the SDCC Taker repaint took the spot of the removed Hollywood Hogan and the line went downhill after that minus Macho Man and Flair, and even then they botched Flairs deco and Savage could’ve had the title. If I were to do something Legends focused it would be like the Undertaker basic set that TRU had or the TMNT Leo set where there’s 5-6 basics of covering distinct eras with cool packaging. They have a limited number of talent available but plenty of undone attires or ones that could warrant a rerelease. For reference: Could do Rock: Rocky Maivia, Nation, Great one, Hollywood/bald, and Modern etc HBK: Rockers, sexy boy, DX, early 2000s, retirement etc Warrior: simple colors IC champ: bright color world champ, singlet, baseball hat(people want that),and old man Warrior etc HHH: blue blood, DX, the Game, the shovel, the COO etc Kane: Debut(one or two sleeve, but one sleeve basic hasn’t been done), singlet top(regular, invert, or all black), unmasked, corporate, modern, etc Jeff: plaid or brood, Team extreme, IC champ, world champ, modern etc Sting: surfer blonde, surfer brunette, crow, wolfpac, modern etc Flair: long hair NWA, shorter hair WWF, even shorter hair WCW, evolution era, and modern maybe in a suit or two NWA versions but they’ve done both of those. All different trunks. I’d only do one or two a year maybe at holiday time. Amazon exclusive.

Most people's ideas here on how they would do a Legends line...might actually put Mattel out of business.

Most people's ideas here on how they would do a Legends line...might actually put Mattel out of business. This. Of course many of us are hardcores from the 80s and 90s but Pedro would shelfwarm hard. If we like it or not, the stuff most watched on the network is new stuff. The figures that sell the higher numbers are newer, modern product figures. If they released a line that was half or all 80s guys it would shelfwarm badly. Pedro would be better suited as a store exclusive in the elite line like Blassie, etc

4 figure legends set with one figure from the 80's, one from the early to mid 90's, one from mid to late 90's and one from the 2000s

I posted this elsewhere for an online exclusive series so I'm just going to recycle it because I really want more WCW I would do four sets of four figures that have a build-a-set feature. You buy all 16 for the year you get an entire set. Really Bad Example: 2021 Set - Nitro Arena
Wave One:
Wave Two: Then do wave 3 with another WCW logo set and wave 4 with the entry way set. By the end of it we have the Nitro set built. Release a special exclusive for the announcer booth and get Mongo signed so it comes with him and his dog and later on you can release him in ring gear. Then in 2022 maybe do two different sets like 8 figures build an ECW entrance and the other 8 make a WWF entrance. 2023 go back to the 16 figures to make like the Smackdown Fist arena or something.

I'd just keep pumping out desirable figures of desirable characters. I don't want the line to die.

They need to focus on big name legends. If they continue with 4, have no less than 2 big names per wave.
I love the card art. I love the line. I’m honestly hoping the preorder fiasco and Weasel Heenan doesn’t kill the line.
My ideal wave would be: Shawn Michaels - WM 19 Hulk Hogan - Hulk Still Rules Harley Race - anything NWA One Man Gang

I agree with others that going back to the time of Bruno and Pedro would hurt the Legends line at retail. However, I would love to get a Killer Kowalski figure.

I respectfully disagree with those saying a Pedro Morales would hurt the line. It’s no different than Bruno, Brisco, Patterson, etc. (I hate comparing wrestler’s careers vs. others as to whether they warrant a figure.) But Mattel just gave us a Superstar Billy Graham so I don’t think a Pedro would hurt anything?

But Mattel just gave us a Superstar Billy Graham so I don’t think a Pedro would hurt anything? I tend to agree - as a store exclusive, most Legends would do fine. I think there's additional retail pressure on a dedicated Legends line, though, and it demands a lineup mostly comprised of recognizable 80s/90s guys.

I think the figures they’ve chosen are fine. I like all of them except the typical Mattel sh*tty part choices (I’m staring a hole through you, Bobby Heenan).
Razor (good, shame about the thumb hands) Heenan (those damn legs man, love the cloth suit tho it’s cute, I have one of both versions) Valentine (thank god people can shut up now) Sting (😭 fix this please) Warrior 😍 Jake 😍😍😍 Eddie 😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰 Orndorff (cool don’t have one yet; been 9 years between releases) Beefcake (looks good) DDP (amazing) DiBiase (super amazing) Volkoff (will have been 11 years between releases)
The figures so far are good and some of my favorites in the past three years. I appreciate them doing some new personas like old Warrior & Invasion DDP. But I’d like to see some more new faces if possible because so far we’ve only had Valentine

I don't think it would work as a Legend's line, but I would probably be more likely to buy these sets than any strict legends figures. I'd love to see more "History Of" boxsets. Although, personally, there needs to be a Mick Foley set added to this list with his five different looks: Mankind/Cactus Jack/Dude Love/Commissioner Foley/Mick Foley As it is, I have a spot on my display already set up for this, although the Mankind and Mick Foley figures are from Jakks, while the only Commissioner Foley I have is the modern era one from the battle pack with Steph (Need to get a Jakks AE one)

I'd fill it with wrestlers from the 70s and 80s that almost nobody cares about nowadays, then I'd blame Mattel when it died after one or two series.
