I'd fill it with wrestlers from the 70s and 80s that almost nobody cares about nowadays, then I'd blame Mattel when it died after one or two series. It's already in for a rocky start with Sting (the anchor of series 7) being pulled. Some of these ideas would almost immediately kill the line totally.

Tackle mainly attires from 97-2005. Each wave, four figures. One WWF Attitude Era, one WCW, one woman, and one Ruthless Aggression. I didn’t include ECW because it’s obvious they aren’t signing deals. Keep pre 97 figures to collectors edition or flashbacks in lines. Examples:
Rumble 97 HBK Unreleased Sting Summerslam 2002 Angle Wrestlemania 15 Chyna
Wrestlemania 14 Undertaker Ponytail Lex Luger Wrestlemania 19 Hogan Wrestlemania 21 Trish
Summerslam 98 Triple H Halloween Havoc 97 DDP 2002 Blue Edge (From Ladder Match With Eddie) Mighty Molly

If i worked at Mattel i would keep the legends line new looks for main event talent with one midcard or non wrestler performer each wave. I would make sure that three or four different eras represented each wave or different promotions (jcp/nwa/wcw and wwf) 80sgolden era, new generation, attitude, ruthless aggression
I would keep ftitl 70s or 80s gets to one a wave store exclusives or online releases.

This is basically what they’re doing and the right way to go. Graham, Blassie, etc are good figures for the elite chase spot and series 7 & 8 have covered different eras nicely. If they keep it up and don’t have anymore Sting incidents or overproduce it then hopefully the line will do well

For starters, I'd do a pre-DX Shawn Michaels in red tights with a white heart pattern. It blows my mind that we're ten years into this line and the closest we've gotten to that has been a basic.

Start with the Championship Title Belts that haven't been made yet, from oldest to newest. Match them up with the respective Champions. Call it the "Champions" line. Do not make it exclusive to one store.

The Legends line should be sold online directly by Mattel using a crowdfunded system. If you have enough backers, you get the likes of Pedro Morales and other obscure characters that would inevitably rot on the shelves and cancel the line again.

I would try to complete factions and spread them across a platform. Maybe if I was doing NWO a two pack of Hogan and someone a little bit obscure but wanted. Put a Syxx in the legends line, a Nash in the Elite line and then have Hall be a network spotlight type figure. All released in the same time frame. I’d also try to get a bunch of new gen guys out. Dink for one because I think he’d be a solid seller.

All these unsigned Legends should sign with AEW and put out figures that way. F Vince

Pedro is long overdue. Mattel has done Gerald Briscoe, Pat Patterson, Bob Backlund, Freddie Blassie, Mae Young, Wendi Richter. They didn't kill the line as store exclusives. Packed at 1 per case and available thru ringside its not a bad move.

I think now the legends line is back on there is much more of a chance these figures can be released down the line. There is a huge list for me that I am waiting for and I am hoping that all eras will be represented in time.
I would love to see the likes of Pedro Morales, Harley Race, Ivan Koloff and Bubby Rodgers. I would love to see a Sgt. Slaughter from his heel days (rumble 91 attire), Mr Perfect, Tito Santana, Rick Martel and Jeff Jarrett.

The problem with any Mattel line dedicated to Legends is available talent. It’s like fantasy booking the Invasion when the people you try to use weren't available either. Hogan being pulled from later waves of HoF2, Defining Moments, and Sting being pulled from the new Legends wave really hurt I’m sure. Instead of selling a ton of Stings and Hogan’s and some of the others, there’s just pegs of Heenan and Razor like there was Tito’s. Also I believe the SDCC Taker repaint took the spot of the removed Hollywood Hogan and the line went downhill after that minus Macho Man and Flair, and even then they botched Flairs deco and Savage could’ve had the title. If I were to do something Legends focused it would be like the Undertaker basic set that TRU had or the TMNT Leo set where there’s 5-6 basics of covering distinct eras with cool packaging. They have a limited number of talent available but plenty of undone attires or ones that could warrant a rerelease. For reference: Could do Rock: Rocky Maivia, Nation, Great one, Hollywood/bald, and Modern etc HBK: Rockers, sexy boy, DX, early 2000s, retirement etc Warrior: simple colors IC champ: bright color world champ, singlet, baseball hat(people want that),and old man Warrior etc HHH: blue blood, DX, the Game, the shovel, the COO etc Kane: Debut(one or two sleeve, but one sleeve basic hasn’t been done), singlet top(regular, invert, or all black), unmasked, corporate, modern, etc Jeff: plaid or brood, Team extreme, IC champ, world champ, modern etc Sting: surfer blonde, surfer brunette, crow, wolfpac, modern etc Flair: long hair NWA, shorter hair WWF, even shorter hair WCW, evolution era, and modern maybe in a suit or two NWA versions but they’ve done both of those. All different trunks. I’d only do one or two a year maybe at holiday time. Amazon exclusive. I don't think it would work as a Legend's line, but I would probably be more likely to buy these sets than any strict legends figures. I'd love to see more "History Of" boxsets. Although, personally, there needs to be a Mick Foley set added to this list with his five different looks: Mankind/Cactus Jack/Dude Love/Commissioner Foley/Mick Foley As it is, I have a spot on my display already set up for this, although the Mankind and Mick Foley figures are from Jakks, while the only Commissioner Foley I have is the modern era one from the battle pack with Steph (Need to get a Jakks AE one) It would work better than half of these pipe dreams in this thread. People cry because things aren’t elites and then stick them in their shelves in the most vanilla pose....

I would make the most random and extreme line. I would have a elite 2 pack of Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco from KOTR 2000. They would come with cloth evening gowns and wigs and the Hardcore belt. I'd have a proper elite Iraqi Sgt Slaughter. NWO Miss Elizabeth would be in the line. I'd produce more celebrity figures for the line once every couple of series. I'd make some older pre 70s wrestlers, such as Gorgeous George and Bobo Brazil. There would be more WCW and ECW guys as well. I'd make a Gene Snitsky figure with alternate bald head and yellow teeth and a baby doll and anti Baby Sign. I'd produce more women's legends as well.

I want to see all the characters from the 80s and 90s (Powers of Pain, Koko B Ware, Hercules etc) that haven't been made yet before we get old guys that will kill the line.

If you’re going to do a legends line...you need to sign some legends! If they really want the line to succeed they need to sign Demolition, LOD, Rick Martel, One Man Gang, King Kong Bundy, Harley Race among others that are in very high demand. You sprinkle those guys in with the Hogans and Machos and Warriors and Stings and other anchor talents and then you add guys like Dynamite Kid and Hercules and Haku and Zeus and Powers of Pain and Morales and others that have never had a figure and that’s how you have an unbelievably successful Legends line.

The best approach launching a Legends or Classic line is similar to the approach Jakks Pacific took with Classic Superstars; release a traditional set of 6 single packs, three 2-packs, two web exclusives and a box set with all huge names and save the older or lesser known guys to be released in later sets alongside more big names. Mine would look something like the following...
Series 1 singles:
- Undertaker (1995 era with entrance coat) - Steve Austin (1997 era with vest) - Hulk Hogan (1992 era with torn shirt) - Bret Hart (1996 era with Hart Foundation jacket) - Shawn Michaels (1996 era with entrance gear) - Mankind (1995 era with removable mask)
Series 1 2-packs:
- L.O.D. 2000 (with shin guards, gauntlets, shoulder pads and helmets) - Undertaker vs. Kane (1997 era) - Steve Austin & Dude Love
RSC Exclusives:
- 1/3000 Undertaker (Ministry era, Glow in the dark) - 1/3000 Ric Flair (lavender trunks/purple boots, entrance robe with rhinestones)
Box sets:
- Nation of Domination (Farrooq w/leather coat & hat, D-Lo, Kama, Mark Henry)
- 3 Faces of Foley, "Foley Is God" (debut attire Mankind with removable mask, white shirt & black tie [2 looks in 1 figure], Dude Love with sunglasses and headband, Cactus Jack with "Bang Bang!" hands, Commissioner Foley)
You make a statement by launching BIG with very highly in-demand names and attires that haven't been perfectly done recently, if ever, and make choices that give you the opportunity to deliver a strong lineup with some reuse in part choices, keeping your budget slightly lower and really impressing your demographic.
After a few sets, you can start peppering in some older or more obscure characters like Greg Valentine, Don Moracco, Koko B. Ware, Magnum TA and so on, but releasing those names in sets that also have guys like Hall & Nash, Jake Roberts, Warrior, Guerrero etc.
Scheduled releases of two RSC Exclusives per year, but limiting all other exclusives or variants to make your line fun and exciting, but avoiding making collecting a chore by making it less difficult to track figures down.
Boom. Instant success. I probably gave this WAY too much thought. If you read this post in its entirety, kudos to you!
