to add to the if sid won rr92 thread, what if piper got the win?
say they decided to give him the win and let him win both belts in one night. it woulda been a huge deal with him never having a belt then with both. ending coulda played out the same with flair beating piper down on other side of ring, then going over and doing the hulk/sid/flair part, then turns around and piper is there, and piper tosses him out. flair still gets over with NY crowd going 60 minutes and being last guy in.
then it coulda been piper vs flair & still hulk vs sid at mania, and savage wrestles jake and undertaker gets warlord or someone like that to basically squash.
or flair wins belt off piper at a snme, then defends vs hulk at mania. sid vs taker, savage vs jake. hart vs piper still.
any thoughts? anyone else was hoping piper was gonna both? i sure did after he won IC belt earlier.

Another interesting thought, I do like the idea of the whole Sid/Hulk thing with Flair, then having Flair think he won only to turn around and see Piper. I would have been all for Piper winning the rumble, he was one of my favorites at the time. I don't think it would have been good to have Piper win the rumble and the title only to lose it one month later at SNME. I think if they let Piper win the belt then he has to go to Mania as the Champion, with the logical opponent being Flair. They could still do the Hogan/Sid match at WM8 with the same ending (Warrior/Shango), and do the Macho/Jake match as well. That would leave Undertaker without an opponent, they could have him beat any random guy like Warlord. They could also put him against the Texas Tornado if Taker was still a heel. If they were still doing the whole "you can't hold two belts at the same time" thing, then I imagine Roddy would have to forfeit the IC title. To me they could do a tournament to crown a new IC Champion with Bret and Mountie having the finals match at WM8.

Nice idea. It would have been cool to see Roddy with both titles.
For what it's worth, it was been confirmed to me, by Roddy and Paul Bearer, Piper was suppose to sub for Hogan at "Tuesday in Texas" to build up the neck injury for Hogan from that chair, and Roddy was going to win the world title from Undertaker and go on to the Rumble to defend it against Flair, Flair was to go over and Hogan was going to win the rumble setting up the Mania 8 match with Hogan Vs Flair. But with Hogan and Roddy deciding that Mania 8 was going to be the end for them in the WWE for a while, things were switched around.

I can’t see him winning the Rumble but I do think he should have had a run with the title.

How dare you talk about WARLORD like he is nothing!!!
But I do think Piper should have been in the last 5
Heck you could have done Flair vs Hogan, Piper vs Savage and Sid vs Taker

Heck you could have done Flair vs Hogan, Piper vs Savage and Sid vs Taker Technically, he was. I believe Sid pushed him and Martel out at the same time, they were the 5th and 6th last wrestlers in the rumble. The ones left after that were Flair, Hogan, Sid, and Macho.

Roddy vs Flair for the belt at Mania. The feud they had never had a true ending so it wouldve been great to see these greats battle for the big one on the big stage. MKSavage I like the Ic tourney idea If Jack ''on the take'' Tunney stripped him of it like he did Warrior in 90. Hot Rod having both belts even for a short time man wouldve been awesome

That would have been cool to have Piper go into the rumble as Champion and face Flair, mainly that Piper would have been champion and that we would have actually gotten a blow-off match between Flair and Piper for their feud. I could definitely see Hogan coming out and helping Piper beat Undertaker setting up the showdown for Hogan & Taker in the rumble, I imagine that the last three would have been Hogan, Taker, and Sid, with Hogan winning. This would have set up Hogan v Flair, Sid v Taker, and Macho v Jake at WM8. However, this now leaves Piper without an opponent at WM8, unless they have Mountie as the IC champion going into SNME in February and Piper beats him for the belt there, Bret would be announced as the #1 contender afterwards and we would get Piper v Bret at WM8.

As a huge fan of Roddy’s I always wanted Piper to win the WWF title, but at the same time I never felt like he needed to have the championship to validate him as being the best. To me he was bigger than the championship.

While it would have been really cool to see piper as champion, like PJ said he never needed the title.

To me he was bigger than the championship. One of the few wrestlers that we can say that about in fairness. I remember being so pumped when Piper beat Hogan @ Starrcade 1996. felt huge...but then it was revealed it wasnt for the title....lord have mercy.

I honestly don't like to think that we'd lose Bret vs Piper at Mania 8. It was easily Roddy's best match.

Shame he never won the title. Going back and watching, he's the most compelling guy they had.
This would have been an awesome way for him to have gotten his due.

I guess Piper would have given up the IC title after winning the world title? So Hogan would have won 3 rumbles in a row? The Brain from this board would probably not have liked that match as much then:)

I've always enjoyed Pipers promos he cut pre and post IC Title match at this event. Can you imagine his promo with Mean Gene after wining the Rumble??!!

I'm sure you would have liked Flair winning the title from Piper, but would you have liked this ppv as much if Hogan won his third straight rumble match?
