This one got to me a bit this morning, and I wasn't even a huge LOD fan. But I would like to share some memories I have of the LOD in one way or another.
One of my first real memories of seeing the Road Warriors was on an AWA video tape I got of Sgt. Slaughter, and at the end of the tape they showed what other video releases they have out, and one was on the Road Warriors. I remember reading about them in PWI magazines, or The Wrestler, Inside Wrestling, all of those, but I didn't see NWA Wrestling at the time so all I remember is Paul Ellering saying in a promo on this AWA tape, "it's not nice to fool with the Legion of Doom" and then showed Animal and Hawk beating up everyone.
Not too long after that I finally seen NWA Wrestling on TV. I was probably 7 years old at the time. Because my first real memory of watching the NWA was the episode where Barry Windham turned on Lex Luger and joined the Horsemen. So I got to see Animal and Hawk turn heel in the NWA when they won the Tag Titles. I remember thinking, "they are like how they were in the AWA now!"
The tag title loss to the Varsity Club shocked me. So did every other one of their tag title losses actually. I said before, Animal and Hawk would dominate every tag team and then lose the tag titles to two singles stars put together out of no where to form a team. Weird how they were booked like that.
I remember being really shocked in the summer of 1990 when Vince McMahon hyped up that next week we would see the debut of the Legion of Doom on WWF Superstars of Wrestling! I remember thinking, "wait, they are in the NWA... aren't they?!?!" Nine year old me was a bit confused at that moment.
I loved the Warrior/LOD vs. Demolition in six man tag matches. Those were always so much fun, and thankfully I got to do those matches with the help of the Hasbro action figures!
I remember when I got the LOD. I was in Zellers I believe it was, I am not sure if that store was anywhere else but in Canada, but it was a pretty popular store here in Canada. But I saw the LOD tag team and Koko B. Ware on the pegs. I had to have them for my figure fed. I actually went on to make Animal the WWF Champion a few times, because his Hasbro figure was just so awesome. Sadly Hawk didn't get the same chance being I hated that jumping action that they gave him.
Hawk's single run in ECW and WCW was different. I never understood why he wasn't with Animal anymore, then I found out Animal hurt his back pretty bad. But then in 1996 I was shocked to see the Road Warriors in blue show up in WCW. I feel that their WCW run should have been better than what it was. But thankfully we did get to see Road Warriors vs. Steiners, Road Warriors vs. Harlem Heat and Road Warriors vs. Sting and Lex Luger. All exciting stuff!
The shocking debut in the AWF. That is a wrestling company that could have been huge but just didn't make it. The fact Animal and Hawk could never win the AWF Tag Titles off Greg Valentine and Tommy Rich is somewhat comical actually.
The crazy return to the WWF on the episode of Raw where ECW was debuting at as well. I had no idea the LOD were gonna come back to the WWF then, but I am so glad they did, because we got some BCA style wrestling figures then!
Animal and Hawk in a way are the "Hulk Hogan" of the tag division for the 80s and 90s. They were unstoppable, everyone liked them, they could never be beat, and if they were beat it was always by huge cheating and interference.
R.I.P Animal, and Hawk as well.
And I hope today that Paul Ellering is taking his time, taking many breaths, and that his heart isn't overly shattered..... I know how much Hawk dying hurt that man, I am sure this is just as bad.

Really sad to hear, he always came across as a super nice dude who loved life.
I never knew of them before the WWF, but right from the start I knew they were a huge deal and I pretty muched dumped Demolition for them right away. I liked how the WWF did not just throw the tag belts on them right away. Their teaming with the Warrior and Texas Tornado at the 1990 Survivor Series was a massive moment for me.
Their tag team title win against the Nasty Boys was epic, I was so excited for them to get the belts and they beat the hell out of each other in that match. As a kid I was so excited when their Hasbro figures came out, but I was so disappointed at the same time. First of all, they felt like they were really small, but keeping the pads on them was a massive mistake. I still played with them to death and they had many tag title reigns however.
I could go on and on forever about the Legion of Doom, but they were a massive part of my childhood. Rest in peace Animal, you were one of the awesome ones!

Great point and competely agree. Too many legends gone and it's really getting hard to deal with. Another great that I'm glad i got to meet and say how awesome he was to me a kid. RIP To both members of the greatest team ever.

Im stunned and saddened. Been a fan since '84..at first only through the Apter mags, but later on (still '84, I believe) through the weekly AWA show, Pro Wrestling USA. They really captured my imagination as a kid and I completely bought into it that these guys were unstoppable.

Not a fan of the Corey Graves, but I liked his Twitter Post, all he said was "The Afterlife needed their Survivor Series team" and posted this photo: So true... RIP Animal. Another legend gone too soon.

Another legend gone too soon. Seeing that picture is even sadder now. Other than being part of the greatest Survivor Series team of all time, my favorite memory of the Road Warriors/LOD is of them destroying jobbers and midcard tag teams when this music hit. RIP

In NWA Crockett they were like Tyson. Destroying scrubs in less than a minute.
I highly recommend you guys read Animal’s book about the Road Warriors that came out several years ago.

I heard about Gale Sayers passing away today, but just heard about this now when I came to check the board. Sad news. Rest In Peace.

The Road Warriors were the Hulk Hogan of tag team wrestling. They also had one of the best entrance themes of all time.
