I know they needed something to do with Honky around this time, and they needed something to do with Valentine, and Valentine was good in tag teams, but...this doesn't really work. what would happen if they stayed in roles?

I didnt mind the little run R&B had. They were never gonna be champs but they were fine for a low card team during this era.Still get a kick out of Gorilla calling Hammer box car.
Also who could forget Honka,Honka Honka, Honky Love??!!

Even as a kid I found this combo strange...Honky just wasn't a tag team guy.

I liked the gimmick and team. I hate random thrown together teams without a gimmick like they were at WM V. Jimmy called em Double Trouble but that was lame and didn't really stick.
This gimmick I liked. When 2 guys thrown together get a name and gimmick I can get on board with. Like Power and Glory and the New Age Outlawz.

Both guys also teamed on the house show circuit in early 1988 against Brutus and Macho Man so them teaming always made more sense than two other random guys thrown together. By 1989 and 1990 they really were going nowhere and with the Hart Foundation still needing a win against Jimmy Hart guys, it made sense to put his singles stars against Hitman and Anvil. I guess Vince thought bringing them out with a new theme would breathe some life into them but it didn't really. And I don't think Valentine liked doing it either. They should have just been kept as a team from mid 1989 until they left. Honkytonk seems like a Vince favorite as it always seemed like, if he was under contract, Vince would give him a place on the card like commentating, backstage segments or his ill fate time as manager. I liked him as a commentator in 1991 but he probably felt like he had some steam left in himself as a wrestler.

I said this in the past here but it's a shame Honky left before we could see these two feud.I wouldve had these two face off at Mania VII with Hammer getting the win after hitting em with his own guitar.
Quake on the other hand couldve fought somebody like Shane Douglas or better yet Tugboat considering their history.

Its really odd Tugboat wasn't on the Mania VII card. From main eventing against Hogan as Shiek Tugboat to nothing is quite a fall. I like your idea.

Early in the Mania build they had em facing Taker but in the end he was swapped out for Snuka.Dont know if he was injured or maybe he had obligations at sea

I liked the team, they really didn't get a good run, as I think they were only on one SNME and one PPV during their 9-10 month run. Neither of them were really doing anything at this point so putting them together didn't hurt them. I think they were put together just to break them up and have them feud. Like The Brain said, too bad we didn't get them at WM7. Also have to agree with jason1980s, Honky was good on the mic as an announcer, too bad that didn't last.

Thought he played the heel color role fine. He was advertised for the Rumble but in the end he left right before it. That most likely wouldve been where his feud with Hammer got underway.

Have Greg attack Honky, like he did Bravo in the match, also have Hammer eliminate Honky and there you go. Move Bravo down in the rumble match, maybe in Knobbs' place, with him, Quake and Hogan being the last three guys in the match - to keep the Hogan/Quake/Bravo feud going. Tugboat could be in Bulldog's place being in the final four.

I feel like this team wouldn't really be discussed if not for the R&B Greg Hasbro figure honestly that's how forgettable these 2 were together lol

I will say though they did have one weak a$$ finisher... That was their finisher??? That is pretty weak. They would have been better off having Honky do his Shake, Rattle, and Roll then have Hammer immediately drop the elbow on the prone opponent for the win.

Yeah that or Honky hit SRR with Hammer putting the poor ham n egger in the figure four right after. A double back suplex though? Terrible.

The Rockers needs a team to beat and there ya go. The house shows needed 20 minutes as filler so we have R&B Vs The Bushwhackers, etc. Valentine was spinning his wheels and HTM had his time to shine and there was no way he would have done any better than what he did with the IC title. I didn't mind R&B, it was silly. HTM did say they were suppose to have a run with the tag titles, but everyone says that. lol.

Honky himself left WWF around the time the figures were coming out so they should have just made Greg but maybe it was too costly to produce with all the intricate details. I don't recall ever looking for it in stores but I wonder how many kids did based on the picture.
