i hate it for people who are losing jobs (at least until they reopen) but honestly Ive felt like with streaming services the way they are now, movie theaters were going to be the way of the past. As I recently said in the Marvel thread, Id pay $20 to sit at home and watch a new release rather then pay 10-15 dollars and have to go to a theater with people annoying the outta me.

While I do enjoy seeing specific movies such as the comic book ones with some folks, I agree that I would certainly enjoy 90% of all movies more if I could do it from the comfort of my home and not be distracted by the fools constantly talking/checking their phones/etc...

I'm torn. I've enjoyed going to the movies since I was a wee one, but I have to admit, I don't love it as much as I once did.
Maybe it's the movies themselves, maybe it's being an adult instead of a child, but the movie theatre doesn't seem to hold the magic it once did.
Between streaming services, the prohibitive cost of going to the movies, and now a global pandemic...I fear the movie theatre has run its course.
I honestly never thought I'd live to say that.

It’s a temporary closure until movie releases are no longer pushed back.
Calm down.

They will eventually come back or someone will take over. Mulan was a test of the market and it failed. There's no way the studios can make the kind of pictures that the masses want (big budget green screen "do it in post" movies) and just stick it on streaming services. Even splitting ticket revenue with the movie theaters, studios make more money when a group of friends or a family each have to pay for a ticket to see the movie versus that family or group of friends paying that one time fee for streaming.

I had some absolutely terrible cinema going experiences in 2018 and 2019. I personally won't miss the cinema if it goes the way of the dodo but the loss of jobs will be tragic.

The movies is an experience that needs to stay. I will say, Imax is taking their own bit of that movie space, and I hear good things.
