Before Eddie was let go in 2001 due to his personal issues, he was in the middle of a story where he lost the Euro Title to Matt Hardy, and in a twist he wanted to “join” Team Extreme. Sadly Eddie was let go before the conclusion of this feud.
Has there ever been comments on how this story would have played out? I can’t seem to find anything on this and curious if anyone has talked about where this was going.

There was no plan for the story Eddy said in an RF Video shoot interview, just a week to week thing.

I honestly have no recollection of Eddie being released from the wwe. I remember him having time off for the dislocated elbow, but I don’t remember him being released from the wwe.

Yeah, he wasn't gone too long though. He was released November of 2001, and by April 2002 he was back. I believe during that time, he was part of Ring of Honor's first show against Super Crazy.

So what you are technically saying is that you have blocked out the entire Alliance vs. WWF angle... good for you! I wish I could do the same ha ha ha
But yes, I do remember Eddie and Jeff Hardy tagging on Raw. Then the next week Eddie was gone.
His return after Wrestlemania X8 to feud with RVD for the IC Title came out of nowhere, but it was perfect too at the time. Since I can't imagine who RVD would have wrestled then if Eddie wasn't there for the matches.

That Eddie/RVD feud gave us some great matches and I’m with yah that I can’t figure out who RVD would have feuded with following WM18 since every top and midcard heel seemed to be in a feud. Maybe Jericho drops back down to the IC Title alot faster than he did to feud with RVD, or maybe Brock gets a run with the belt before King of the Ring.

I would not be surprised if that was gonna happen. The European Title was in limbo the entire reign of Matt Hardy. I remember Matt having that Backlash match with Christian and Eddie in the 3 way dance for the European Title and that's the only real memory I have of Matt's title reign.
I am sure Eddie Guerrero was meant to win it back, maybe even as soon as King of the Ring.

Not that it was Matt’s fault as the WWE just didn’t care about the Euro Title by that point, but I always found it strange that outside of a Cruiserweight Title run in 2003, Matt didn’t hold another major singles title until 2008. He didn’t move merch like his brother but Matt was still pretty over from 2002-2008.

He didn’t move merch like his brother but Matt was still pretty over from 2002-2008. I remember reading one of the dirtsheets back in 2007 onwards, and remember several times them saying that (possibly according to Meltzer?), Vince wanted Matt as a singles star which is why he had him doing double duty in 2007, wrestling week-to week on both shows, one time with Jeff on Raw and the other as a singles star on Smackdown. It was said Vince was the one behind his push at the time and thought highly of Matt's work. Then in 2008 we saw him with the US and ECW title which confirms that. Shame we didn't see Matt get a big push in 2005 after his firing/rehiring as they really wasted that potential. The crowd had cooled off on him and he was a solid member of the roster but was moreso a lower-midcard guy during this time. They built him up vs MVP well, but still it felt too forced. He just didn't click I feel. They stalled his momentum in 2009 by turning him heel after months of doing nothing following his ECW run. He just seemed to be too comfortable in the lower midcard and any attempt to elevate him just felt flat. A shame. On topic - they didn't know what to do with Eddie in 2001 and they forced him into this story. Luckily in 2002 he came back all guns blazing.

I think Eddie would have ended up part of the Alliance had he not been released....there was so many talents just treading water until that kicked off. When he returned in 2002 he was awesome though....
