I am going through and organizing my figures, and personally have defined the Golden Age from the 80's as starting in January 1984 when Hogan beat the Sheik for the title, and ending in October 1992 when Bret Hart wins the title, starting the New Generation era.
That does seem like a long period of time, including a lot of figures, so I am thinking of dividing that in half with Wrestlemania 3 being the dividing line between the early 80s and the later 80s/early 90s. Does that make sense to people? I am kind of looking for as close of a group consensus as I can get. This would mean figures like JYD, Snuka, and Muraco would be in a different era than Sid Vicious, Mr Perfect, and Big Boss Man.
i am also mixing Classic Superstars with the various Mattel figure lines for the biggest roster.
Thoughts?

I have three shelves for Golden Era WWF, one is pre-1988 (also includes André, Bruno, and will include Superstar), the second is 1989-1990, and the third is 1991-Wrestlemania 8, I might need to expand one day but for now it still works

I also have a separate area for the Independents and am also working on several NWA / WCW areas (Crockett, Early WCW, and NWO era). I have most of what I want to do mapped out, but the WWF of the 80's is what I am facing now.

I’ve loosened up on my eras a little to try and stop having multiple of the same guy on one shelf. They’re still in some sort of Jesse but it’s now more like this
Pre mania Mania 1-3 Mania 2-4 Mania 3-4
Not exactly but you get the drift.

I think it largely depends on your space and collection. Right now my setup is laid out as:
80's WWF - basically anything from 1989 and prior, including Bruno and Superstar 1990/91 92/93 mid 80's-94 Crockett/WCW

Like all Era’s there always an overlap but I like your thinking.
Golden Era Hogan wins the title
New Gen Era Bret wins the title
Two really clear markers but completely up for interpretation

You could always place the figures in the appropriate spot based on the date they debuted.

I always think the golden era as ending at WM8. Hogan leaves and over the following months you see the rise of Bret Hart
Attitude era starts 1997 with the rise of Austin, Bret's heel turn, DX etc.
That said my display is the "hasbro era" guys. 88ish to 94ish.

Eras bleed together, so you'll have some leeway either way that would look sensible with certain people. WM3 as a dividing point sounds good to me.
I do mine a little more broadly since I only have one unit for my wrestling stuff. My wrestling Detolf display is late 80s/early 90s (w/ vinyl blue WWF interview backdrop), mid-90s (w/ In Your House backdrop), late 90s/early 00s (w/ WWF vs WCW gated fence backdrop), and modern (w/ house show stage backdrop). It's not 100% dead-on accurate for everyone, but it's ballpark.

My favorite part of displaying my figs is matching wrestlers who never went together. I put Superstar Billy Graham next to Undertaker or Andre the Giant next to Brock Lesnar to imagine a universe where everyone I ever enjoyed watching can fight each other in fresh match ups. If I want to relive an era, I can just watch the WWE Network. That's just me. 🤷♂️

That's my favorite era of wrestling. But no Golden Era collection is complete without The Genius, Iron Mike Sharpe, Barry Horowitz, The Young Stallions & Conquistadors.

I’ve yet to organise mine, I’ve only just got my shelf up and trying to find some display steps.
When I do organise them, I think I’m going to do them by the actual date/year of the figure attire...no need to worry about the blurred lines of the Eras. Can’t go wrong if you go by the actual year of the attire.

Can’t go wrong if you go by the actual year of the attire. And what if a wrestler wore the same attire in different years? Example: Royal Rumble Macho Man wore that attire at the 1991 Rumble and then he wore it again in the 1994 Rumble match.
