Interesting topic to discuss as many state he was slated for a huge title run. How would you of booked/seen Regal becoming this main event player in 2008.

Definitely looked that way but his body started to break down on him plus the suspension. A shame because he was the best thing on RAW during those few months before he got busted.

A few nagging injuries caught up to Regal. Then his suspension killed off any hope of the "thank you" title reign. They were gonna give him a stable as well.

I think it would of been interesting run; and Regal still had some go especially with Cm Punk match on Raw in 09. I think possibly him defeating Triple H in the Summer of 2008 would of been interesting sight. But it’s really hard trying to map out 2008 from that point and seeing broad effects

was he slated to have a run? I always heard it was just a program with HHH who was champion i think, or at least would be again.
regardless I think it would have worked, he would have been a great champion best heel at the time imo probably behind Orton, and maybe Jericho. I dont know where I would fit his title win in though looking back,

The injuries delayed it...then the drug suspension killed it stone dead.

By 2008 I just didn’t buy Regal as world champ material. Had they elevated him during 2001-2004 to main event status (illness aside that kept him out of action for over a year), I would have bought into it more as Regal was a great heel. But by 2008, he had spent years not doing much except jobbing to top guys (not to mention being destroyed by HHH in 2004).

I’m a huge Regal fan but with the roster they had in 08, taking him seriously as champ would have been tough. I think he did a phenomenal job with his short IC title reign he had when he came back and subsequent feud with Christian in ECW.

I just remember him winning the 2008 King of the Ring and submitting Hornswoggle quick with a Regal Stretch.
