That really sucks. I had hoped he was getting better.
According to lots of wrestlers, he was a severely tough S.O.B.
Rest peacefully.

Man this year blows! Another great one passes away. My favorite period of his career was ECW and the Full Blooded Italians. It’s too bad the real life fight between he and JBL never happened. Tracy would have killed him. I will cringe if JBL says anything about Tracy’s death good bad or indifferent, but enough about him. By all accounts Tracy was a man’s man and a great guy that loved helping young talent.
RIP Tracy Smothers

Yeah if I had to pick a time period from his career it'd be his ECW run. Such a great team him and Guido.

R.I.P. Tracy Smothers
My memories of Tracy are simple...
- Great American Bash 90 vs. Midnight Express. People, if you haven't seen that match, do so today!
- Tracy and Dirty White Boy vs. Heavenly Bodies feud in SMW.... T is for terrible, H is for hell, U is for ugly and G is for jail, cause a Thug can't spell!
- Tracy and Guido getting the upset ECW Tag Title win over Kronus and New Jack weeks before the November To Remember '97 PPV
Tracy sounds like he was a great man, a respected man, and a tough man.
He will definitely be missed!

Sad news. He was a good southern style wrestler but I also enjoyed his stint as Freddie Joe Floyd and a fake Italian in the FBI. RIP

Rest in Peace Tracey Smothers. I always remember his best for his tag team run in WCW as the Young pistols. That match vs the Midnight express @ GAB 1990 was a cracker. Their feud with the Freebirds was great too.
I loved his team with Dirty White Boy Tony Anthony too.

CM Punk paid a nice tribute to him on twitter:
"Tracy was the first name I ever worked. He taught me so much just that first night, and continued to do so for years. He loved working shows full of young kids and always helped share his knowledge. Always asked if I was swimming and eating cans of tuna.
His shadow boxing to warm up is legendary. I can hear it now if I close my eyes. I watched him try to take a guys eye out once, then immediately start brushing his teeth. One time he grabbed nachos from a fan and I was so terrified he was going to dump cheese all over me and I’d have to drive home from kentucky covered in concession stand nacho cheese (no showers in IWA) but he said, 'block it, hit me with the cheese, kid'. He wrestled bears. He was in the greatest tag match of all time with Brad vs the Midnights. He was a THUG.
T is for terrible, H is for hell, U is for ugly and G is for jail because a thug can’t spell! I can recite his SMW promo vs Candido from the coal miners glove match by heart. Most IWA shows he would look out the curtain and say 'well if they riot, we got em out numbered boys!'
Fresh from a shower, covered in soap and barely holding a towel to his body he fought police dogs during a riot in ECW. He was one of a kind. The Wild Eyed Southern Boy, and he left his mark on the wrestling business. I love Tracy Smothers. Rest in power Tracy, watch the cheese."

Mattel should make a Midnight Express 2pack from that PPV.

I posted this on other sites with Tracy thread:
This is not something you want to come into but we will always remember the good times. I had the pleasure of briefly meeting him in 2017 and the honor of taking a picture on his phone and Savio Vega's phone with him, Savio and Nikolai Volkoff. It's so awesome how so many guys know each other from working different promotions together either independent or non-WWF at various times. I am shocked he was only 58. He's been around so long and had this really old school veteran look to him. He's one of the guys you hear so many good things about. Anyone who met him at an indy show and posts about it, you normally hear about him making the time to talk with them during the show or before or after. He was supposed to do a signing with Tommy Rich and Little Guido just a few weeks ago but he wasn't able to make it obviously. It would have been great for the fans of course but I'm sure the guys would have loved seeing each other. Having met all of them, I'm sure they got along really well during their time together. All three are absolutely "do anything for anybody" or "give the shirt off your back" type of guys. All three deserved bigger positions in wrestling IMO but all three would probably agree they were happy doing what they did. I thought Tracy in WWF would have been a huge success in 1996 but it wasn't meant to be. He wrestled in all three major promotions of the time and it was always great seeing him no matter the promotion.
Edit: I like the tribue by Punk and the one I saw from Lance Storm. It's obvious Tracy made his mark on Punk who seems to want to distance himself from wrestling and the fans. I have no interest in meeting him but I wish he took a note from Tracy on how to treat the fans. But for the time being, he did make an impression on him and for him to post something positive about wrestling and a guy who he far surpassed on the fame level is good enough for right now.

Tracy was a great worker and I loved his roles in SMW and ECW.
got to see him live within the last few years, which was great.
always heard great things - Eddie Kingston mentioned him heavily in his podcast with Jericho recently stating how great of a teacher and influence the was on Eddie.
