I hear people talk about their favorite shows not lasting long enough or being cut too short.
So how many seasons do you think is considered, to be approved as good enough?

Although a few of my favorite shows ended with 5 seasons, I like when shows end with at least 6 seasons. I feel like an extra season or 2 can tie up more nicely with storytelling. And I hate when shows only have 8-10 episodes a season. 13 is the minimum.

Completely depends on the show really. A show I enjoyed was Arrow, but after season 3 it was freaking awful. Law & Order SVU is a show I can literally sit down and watch any time and they're running on 21 season.

Five or six seems to be were most great shows end.
Though, The Leftovers which is my all time favorite, went a perfect three.

I like a lower number of seasons. Or more accurately, I like a lower number of episodes.
Oz The Wire Luther True Detective season 1
I really like how these shows are structured. Really like 8-12 episodes a season that are tightly written. I even like when Luther switched to 4 episodes a season.

"Breaking Bad" was perfect at five seasons, while "Scrubs" was awesome at 9, we do not talk about "Med School". It all depends on the writing. Like "Big Bang Theory", that show should have died off after season 5. Once nerds get hot chicks as wives, it's all over. "Friends" was horrible at the end while "Seinfeld" managed to still be funny when it was ending, except the last episode.
If the writing is strong and the characters have development that isn't asinine, and if the stories are strong and with a purpose, then there is no reason why a show shouldn't go as long as it could. Did anyone ever think that "Always Sunny" would last as long as it's going?!

Superman The Animated Series. The show ended in a cliffhanger. There was supposed to be a 4th season where Superman has to gain back the public's trust after he was brainwashed by Darksied and led a plot to takeover earth. However WB never ordered a 4th season. Freakzaoid!. Only had 2 seasons. Well technically a season and a half according to the writers. It was a great show with all kinds of off the wall humor, celebrity parodies, obscure references, pop culture references and all sorts of slapstick antics. Again another show that WB dropped the ball with. Once Upon A Time. I know the show lasted for 7 seasons with the last technically being a soft reboot of the series. I get that the writers were kinda running out of ideas to draw from but the show could have went on if they went into other Disney characters. I would have loved to see them going into other Disney franchises added to their storylines. The Muppets. I'm not talking about the Muppet Show, I'm talking about the sitcom version on ABC that only lasted a season. I get that they had Miss Piggy be divorced from Kermit the Frog, but the show was great. I watched it every week it was on. A lot of the other Muppets had bit parts in episodes maybe making one appearance in the whole series but it was one of the more interesting shows to come on TV in recent years.

Buffy lasted too long, I feel Season's 1-3 (especially the arc in Season 2 & episodes of Season 3) were the show at it's best IMO, sure there's "Hush", but there's only a handful that I'd say are good in Season's 4-7 (The less about Season 7, the better). Angel should've had at least one more Season, the cliffhanger was harsh. X-Files I feel went on a bit too long. I'd say maybe 3-5 Seasons could work best, though there is the rare occasion where it could still be fresh with one or two more seasons. A lot of shows on Fox either were cut too short, or went on too long.

It depends on the show but I think 5 is a good number. Somebody already mentioned it a few posts above but Breaking Bad is a good example. I think Dexter would have been better overall if it had 5 or 6 seasons instead of 8. And I thought Orange is the New Black didn't need to be 7 seasons.

My favorite show is King of the Hill. It went for 13 seasons. To me, that is around the perfect number. If it’s around 6-8 it seems like to little but when it’s pushing 20+ it gets to be a bit much. I mean I love South Park and old Simpsons but sometimes I feel like it’s a bit much. Even Always Sunny has felt a bit stale the past couple seasons and I love that show.

I’ll be another person that says it all depends on the show. Watchmen was damn near perfect and it’s only 1 season. The Simpsons is my all time favorite and it’s had 32.

I typically like lower episode counts (13 or less) so that the story is tighter and less filler. But really it just depends on the show
I think the last show I watched that had 17-18 a season was maybe Burn Notice. I gave up on that one after season three when it became apparent that you were never going to find out who burned him until the ratings went down or the network canceled it.

Then outside of a few season 3 and 6 episodes, or one offs here and there, it underachieved. As a kid though it was all great. Season 4 is dreadful.

4-5. any longer tends to deter from what made it great.

Depends on the show but one thing I don't miss is most seasons lasting like 25 episodes. Makes revisiting shows almost impossible. Even shows I love like Lost or ST:TNG have insane amounts of filler episodes.
