Okay maybe or maybe not possible NWA Champ, he might've gone to New York anyways. Although we might've gotten Hogan v. Flair a decade early.

McMahon still would've screwed Ole out of GCW and their television slot, and Vince still would've slacked with TV Studio wrestling for Georgia, and Vince still would've boxed the NWA out of PPV coverage - which still would've pissed off Ted Turner and pushed Ted to create WCW.
so nothing really would've changed other than hulkamania not being the cherry on top of Vince's monopolization.
in terms of Hogan's role if in NWA, at best they'd give him the road warrior treatment where he just motors over everyone. but his lack of ring skill would've made him unable to stay in the main event scene of any territory outside the WWF.
Ole had Hogan in GCW for two weeks and thought he was terrible, and sent him to Verne to begin with.

Hogan was supposed to be on the Starrcade '83 card as I recall. There is an old promotional poster out showing that.
I think of Hulk was in the NWA he would have played second fiddle to Dusty Rhodes. I could see Dusty saying, "let's get a tag title win together, baby, then you lose the belts and I will go after Flair and you and Magnum take care of the Russian's, daddy."

Imagine Hogan being on the first Starrcade and the first Wrestlemania...

Him feuding with the Russians sounds like a safe bet.I can see a flag match at a Starrcade with him against Ivan.

As ClassicFan2 said, he goes to the NWA, and you don't have the wild fire of Hulkamania. The whole Hulk Hogan character was basically the perfect fit for the Vince McMahon vision. When you look at the NWA and WWF (the world titles especially), and the NWA was the worker's promotion, the WWF was the sports entertainer's company. Would Hogan have had a run was NWA champion, more than likely because he was popular enough that I could see it, but without Vince's vision and putting all his backing behind him, Hogan doesn't get that rocket strapped to his back, and get pushed as the mega star that he became in the WWF.

We don't get Hulkamania which is a disaster for the business.
Hulk needed Vince. Vince Needed Hulk. The timing was absolutely perfect.
Him staying in AWA or going to NWA doesn't make any waves.

Wasnt that somewhat debunked a few years ago? Something along the lines of JCP putting him on the card to team with Wahoo but they never actually asked or booked him thinking he was in St. Louis at the time only to find out he was in Japan so they scrapped it.

No Hulkamania. No Rock & Wrestling and no wrestling boom in the 80’s. No Mr T HOF speech.
