Vs Shane McMahon. Also it isnt even f*cking close. The damage this feud done is absolutely incredible. Its immeasurable. Its bad enough that Shane runs Kane close in one match & only loses it because Shane makes a mistake but he gets to do it a 2nd time and take him to the limit. Insanity on every conceivable level.... They give Kane this big build up to unmasking. RVD is (logically) sacrificed to him immediately. They have a fresh new heel.....and Shane O Mac takes him to the limit. The end. After this the crowd is meant to buy that Kane is a credible threat to Goldberg....the same Goldberg that's beaten HHH clean twice and murdered the entire Elimination Chamber at Summerslam only to be stopped by a sledgehammer blow. Insanity. Its another example of how damaging Vince/Stephanie's partnership run on creative is. Crazy. This new version of Kane had serious legs....and they flushed it. He was ruined after it. After Goldberg beat HHH for the WHC I think the new unmasked/psychotic Kane should have won the world title. He was super hot as a heel up until SummerSlam 2003 but you’re right that the Shane feud is what killed his momentum (Kane didn’t pin Shane in either of their PPV matches). Imagine Goldberg, who just dominated everyone in the elimination chamber, getting knocked off by Kane at Survivor Series 2003. Kane gets a one month reign where he dominates Raw, and then an Undertaker “gong” goes off at Armageddon to distract him from HHH pinning Goldberg to regain the title (with Evolution interference). This allows the stories going into WM20 to remain pretty much intact, with the major change that Kane is still booked as unbeatable going into his match with Taker at WM20 and not the scared, little brother they portrayed him as. Taker and Kane have a competitive 10 minute match with Taker getting the win and a huge credibility boost for being the first guy to knock off Kane since his unmasking. |

I think Kane’s unmasking could have worked with the “psychological” scars being a solid reason for why his face looked fine...except for the fact that the WWE spent years telling us that his face was disgusting. One example is DX in 2000 unmasking him and all of them almost vomiting at the sight of him. Another was Tori in 1999 supposedly seeing him without his attire on and claiming that everything on him was burnt to a crisp. It just didn’t make sense in 2003 that he was supposedly a normal looking guy with mental issues when everything was to the contrary just a few months prior.
In the end I think unmasking him was a mistake unless they were gonna do up his face with makeup every week. Going to the half mask was apparently at the request of Glen Jacobs, which was fine as I still think he looked cool from 2002-2003. But to completely unmask the character and half-a** it ruined the entire thing.

Kane Vs. Shane put on some very entertaining matches imo. I liked his match work with HHH; but the angle. Disgusting. Fake Kane was bad. Edge terrorizing Kane was pretty horrible. Bad way to end his 2010 title reign; that really did some good stuff for him. Matt Hardy stuff I never cared for at all. Cena ruined his momentum; and that program was cringe. Crazy to think he returned with the mask almost 9 years ago. That horrifies me. 2011 was almost 10 years ago on a side note. Khali was really horrible; I always hated Ryback; his singlet art work was the only cool thing about him. Mysterio-Kane was let down; hoping Kane would remask. stupid angle; but I think those two on good circumstances could have really good match. That man's been through some really really bad angles. I can't chose. Katie Vick for incest; I guess. That's the lowest of low.

The storyline where Snitsky killed Kane and Lita's baby is often brought up as one of the most cringeworthy storylines that WWE had done. I liked it. Everyone liked when Snitsky punted the Baby Yeah that feud at least had a bit of comedy to it even if unintentional. |

Another thing that was stupid about Kane vs Shane was when Kane tombstones Linda(which should have put her out for a long time) she comes back like a week or two later and puts Kane on house arrest yet he is still able to appear in arenas to wrestle! Ever since the attitude era ended WWE has been written for children.
