Looking to do a little research for a project I'm working on - I know Detolfs are popular amongst collectors, do you think they are by far the most popular cabinet/display for loose collectors? Or are there others that are similar or run it close in terms of popularity?
What other commonly known furniture cabinets do people use? I've seen some mention Billy Bookcases too I think?
I'd be keen to hear from US and UK people - Ive seen that some US collectors can struggle to get hold of Detolfs where as over in the UK it seems pretty easy to get them. Does this mean they're not as popular in the US do we think?

Detolf's are definitely the most popular I'd say. I'm going to get one of these shelves soon to replace them though. Make it easier to fit more in, and help split up my RA Collection into Raw, Smackdown & ECW.

I have the cubes and they get dusty. I need to see if the ikea glass doors fit the ones I have because that would save me a headache every few months.

Not really a cabinet but i really like using spice racks to display figures so you can put them in rows, but you can still see them all.

If you’re open to just nice cheap shelves, look up a company called Furnio. The shelves are basically laminated particle board and the posts are plastic, but their stuff is surprisingly nice. It’s super cheap too. There’s no glass or anything like that, but it’s easily available on Amazon.

Get something you want at a cheap price. If you have Facebook, search display cases on the Market Place.

Growing up my parents owned a library cabinet which was a 2 tiered shelf with 2 separate glass coverings. They used it to store their encyclopedia set. It looks like this. Sadly my sister now owns it

I went for a shop style slatwall as I like to sometimes display my boxed collection on the shop hooks or loose like this on clear stands. I hid the slatwall with these printed boards to make it look nicer.

detolfs are great if you have a small collection. For someone like myself who literally has wall to wall figures, its just not feasible to use detolfs. I did/do want them for my smaller Marvel Legends collection but with them being so hard to find at the moment I just went with a curio cabinet

I invested in Detolfs for the first time a few months ago. Got 3 of 'em to justify paying for the shipping price, so while the units are very affordable, with shipping and risers you're definitely investing a few hundred. You can comfortably fit about 16 figures with risers per shelf in my experience, so that's nice, but it definitely won't fit an entire collection if you've been with the line since the start. I use my old custom-made wooden display shelves for my other wrestling figures and my Detolf for a more curated era-based display. You can customize the look further by making backdrops that utilize the metal poles with magnets, too.

I have one of these... Which I have heavily customized and fixed up. I added black backboards, bases, and risers to it. It looks pretty snazzy and I'm in the market to buy/build another set (once I find a way to get rid of my TV/Entertainment Center) Although, with the money it cost me to customize those shelves, I probably could have tossed the utility shelves entirely and bought a proper bookshelf for them. They are nice though. I can display most of my collection on them, with the tall height of the unit meaning I can put 5 tiers of risers per shelf and still have plenty of room in front for other figures. My women's shelf, which is almost full, has about 60 figures on it. That said, I only use the top 3 inner tiers; the bottom one is used for storage and the very tippy top is too high for me to reach.

www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-71-5-Shelf-Bookcase-Black/691486598These MainStays black 5-tier bookshelves from Walmart (link above) are simple, match anything, look great, hold a TON of figures and are only $30. Many, including myself, like the Ikea glass display cases but at $80 a pop, they aren't quite as affordable and don't hold as many MOC or loose pieces. They give your collection a more refined feeling, whereas the MainStays black 5-tier feels more robust and the black provides an attractive contrast against all of the color of a toy collection. Get yourself a few clear acrylic or wooden spice racks from Walmart for risers (link below), and you can load that bad boy down with hundreds of figures and they'll all be visible and look great. Best part is these are only about $12 and since they're expandable, you can use them in a majority of shelves. www.walmart.com/ip/Better-Homes-gardens-Bhg-Bamboo-Expandable-Spice-Rack/925885698

Anyone know of a Detolf equivalent (with a glass door) that will display a Mattel Basic ring with classic cage?
Detolf are currently a little short in depth to house the caged ring so it’s on top for now, though I would like to display some of my collection in the Detolf and in the cage.

They are compatible and differ only in depth.
