Hello all, As I have shown repeatedly, I am an oldschool physical media guy, which may make this a stupid question, but, does anyone else have a hard time calling a band, a real band, if they just release random songs, sporadically, and not at least an ep, if not a full album? I would say, for my standards, these need to be on some sort of physical disc or cassette, but even just put them out together on amazon for goodness sake. To me, I wouldn't go see a band that only has 3 songs to their name, as that wouldn't even wet the appetite. I want a band to put something together, a complete experience, something I can sink my teeth into; "bands" these days just don't do that. That one spotify song is all they need. Maybe I am just old and out of touch; err, older and out of the realm of sane. Ya, that's a better way of putting it. Anyhoo, does anyone else feel the same, and if not, tell me why. Grumpyoldman , I know you have an opinion I'd like to hear. Much respect. VPV

I'm old & I'm a crab. I only have CDs & cassette tapes. No vinyl. I don't have an Ipod, blue tooth, zanga, insta, facebook, myspace or any type of social media (other than this site).
I agree with you 100%. If a band has a hit or gets some air time and I like it, I'll try to see what is available on hard format. Most of the time they say "Go download this app & get our music" or some other hoo-hah. No thank you. I know it's easier & cheaper for a band to put things on spotify or whatever is trending these days. I just don't want to "sign up, create an account, download, bla bla bla." When I was young, I bought the album. Then I updated to cassette. Then I updated to CD. I'll be damned if I'm going to update my whole collection again. If you go on tour, I'll buy a ticket to see you play. If you have CDs for sale, I'll buy one (or more), Hell, I might even buy a shirt or decal to give you advertising. With Covid, lots of bands are doing live streams. Gwar did one a few weeks ago. For $15, you got to see a show from every song from their "Scumdogs of the Universe" 30 year re-release. You also had the option to watch it how many times you wanted to for a week. Sounds like a great deal! Another band I follow (Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band) put on live performances from their cabin every month. They say "If you can spare any money, we'd appreciate it. If you can't, just enjoy the show." And they always play for over an hour, You can request songs with your donation & they usually do it. That's awesome. Great people.
I think I rambled for a while. Let me recap:
Put your damn music on every old format!

Sometimes forces come together to make an album or a few songs like Temple of the Dog or The New Basement Tapes among many examples. A physical disc is more a thing of the past though, but it still exists. Technology evolves. I have no problem or qualms logging into my Spotify account anywhere and having music I want or need at my fingertips. I'm not big on social media or an internet presence either but Spotify makes it so damn easy. I've discovered a lot of music this way through suggestions and playlists, seeing what other people listen to etc. Can't see any issue with it.

There was a band with one amazing song, and a few other decent ones on one now-extremely rare EP that is impossible to find. Lead singer Lisa Nash had a great voice for punk, so I don't know what happened. Here's the one song. Vamp, I think you'd like it:

Marching Orders was the name of their ep, by the way.

Pure punk isn't my normal day to day, but that song makes me want to see what it could make a circle pit do. Mayhem!

as you touched on, the industry doesn't support albums as strongly as just dropping singles and getting them into playlists as an artist
my songs, and albums themselves for my band, are formulated to be shorter as a result of today's ADD attention spans.
I do miss albums and artists conceptualizing them.

I do miss albums and artists conceptualizing them. That is a true bummer. Music needs to go back to the way it was. How can anyone even tour if they only have a couple songs? LPs served a vital purpose, and I for one, preferred 12 or more songs;double discs were the real bangers. More bang for your buck. Good luck with your band, I hope you are doing awesome out there, and enjoying that dream...always wished I would have had a nu-metal band, if I could have a do over. \m/
