If Sting going to TNA while he was still in somewhat of a prime wasn't enough to be a threat, why would post career Sting be?

No one. The returns won’t help. The problem is the out of touch fossil making decisions

The options are pretty slim basically have Rock,Punk,Batista,Cena & Triple H in terms of guys who could draw and actually wrestle a match. In terms of more then a one off or a few match then your down to Cena & Punk.
Sad that something like this probably needs to happen and has to happen to start sometype of spark as the WWE has booked most of the current talent so badly over the years, even with them having the most talented in ring talent in company history.
In terms of top stars they really only have Reigns,McIntrye,Styles,Orton,Rollins,Wyatt,New Day,Charlotte,Becky and maybe Bryan.Guys like Hardy & Mysterio should also be in the mix but have been badly damaged during their return runs and are mid card after thoughts now and their draw power has been all but killed.

I agree with Cornette that CM Punk is MADE for AEW. He would thrive there.
That being said, I think wrestling entertainment in general is on its way out. The vets are keeping it alive for the time being. But it's only a matter of time. And this goes beyond Vince losing touch or guys not being given a chance, etc. The fact is the characters and gimmicks just aren't interesting anymore. And wrestling in general isn't trendy like it was in its prime. While UFC isn't a direct competitor so to speak, I think it will be the future landing spot for a lot of pro-wrestling fans. And for good reason. It's better. And um, well, it's real lol.
I love you.

In the age of learning about CTE, I'm hedging my bets that MMA and boxing are the ones that are hanging on, and that choreographed fighting is primed to thrive.

There's too much money at stake for American football or combat sports to go anywhere (it's the inclusion of politics that has hurt the former way more than CTE talk has). Choreographed fighting hinges on its storyline and character appeal, which has pretty much been on a nosedive for the last 5+ years (and was arguably on a steady decline before that). But to each their own. I love you.

See, WWE doesn’t need a return. If anything, AEW needs to set Sting on fire.

Wish that Saudi Arabian prince would contribute to this thread. I’m sure he would have some great suggestions.
Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger, Bret Hart, Droz, Yokozuna, Bruiser Brody, The Original Sheik, Lou Thesz, Abraham Lincoln, Genghis Khan, Batman, guys like that.
