new thread idea. would like to hear your thoughts on whatever wrestler chosen. did you care for them or not, fav matches/fueds/opponents, titles/matches you wish they had, thoughts on their whole career, etc, etc. #1: Rick Rude Attachment Deletedone of my favs and one of the greatest of all time imo! my 1st real memory of him was when he tagged with manny fernandez in nwa. i didnt think much of him at the time. next thing i knew he was in wwf and on andre's team at SS87. i personally thought he was smaller and skinnier than hercules and herc shoulda been on andre's team and rude on honky's team lol. his fued with orndorff was ok, but the jake fued really got me into him. he was so friokin funny with all his skits and stuff he did. his "what id like to have right now" thing is one of the best things ever out of wrestling! that coulda been attitude era material 10 yrs later even. loved his fueds with warrior & piper. he showed how good a wrestler he really was with those 2 guys. LOVED that he got that IC belt for bit. rude's brood was a GREAT cocky heel team and one of my favs: Attachment Deletedhe REALLY shoulda got the HW belt at summerslam90. they built him all up, had a new look, and warrior wasnt selling for crap as champ. he coulda been a great heel champ. then his career in wwf just died after that. what a shame. he was good in wcw tho. matches with sting, steamboat, flair, etc were awesome! iron man w/steamboat was best match there. was REALLY wanting to see that rude vs vader fued/matches! that was a big bummer. as well as him getting hurt. loved seeing him back with DX & NWO, but also REALLY wish bischoff woulda paid his Lloyds contract and he wrestled again. had to retire too early, and died WAAAAY to early! 10 matches/fueds that woulda been cool to see over the years: Rude vs: Attachment Deletedsavage razor mr perfect luger micheals austin poppa pump sid DDP RKO So, what are your thoughts on "ravishing" rick rude? |

I started watching WWF in 92 and due to the lack of big matches at the time, I started buying up PPV’s on VHS.
One of the first that I got was WM5 and his match with the Warrior got me hooked. From his arrogant walk to the ring, the way he was thrown about, ring music and my personal favourite, when he went to swivel his hips and couldn’t, due to his back hurting. That match alone showed what a performer he truly was. The fact that he could drag two (that I know of) stellar performances from the Warrior, underscores his abilities.
Loved the Survivor Series match pictured above as well.
I remember buying a magazine at the start of 92, and it covered the war games match he was part of, and just by the stills and report, looked an awesome match. Seeing it years later, it was definitely worth the wait.

I became a wrestling fan in 1994 so I missed all of Rude’s run. However, having gone back and watched a ton of his work, Rude is an absolute legend and despite the praise he gets, I think he’s still underrated. Great in the ring, great on the mic, and he was ahead of his time as I can easily see him in the Attitude Era.
While his WWF run had a lot of memorable moments, I prefer his WCW run. Lots of great matches and moments and despite not being officially recognized as a word champ, he held the Big Gold Belt, so to me, he was a word champion.
On the 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff talked about Rude’s Lloyds of London situation and seemed genuinely hurt that it seemed to ruin their friendship. It’s an interesting listen as Eric says the injury was devastating when it happened, but years later when the industry started to boom, Rude wanted a piece of the pie (can’t blame him), and as he started to train again the injury wasn’t career ending as he thought. However, Eric couldn’t justify to his bosses writing a check to pay off Lloyds of London, and then sign Rude to the type of contract he’d demand (six figures). Rude apparently went to Vince about paying it off and he refused as well. It was a terrible situation for Rude.

As I've said in the past here he's in my top 5 of all time. The dude had it all the look,in ring work, promo etc.
The feuds with Jake,Warrior,Piper,Sting,Steamboat, Flair are stuff of legends.Dont forget his classic insults. PA pi$$ants from SSlam 90 is still my fav.

The guy is in the elite class of people that dragged Warrior to really good matches. That alone should speak volumes about his talent. If I’m being honest I think I preferred his WCW run over the WWF run great as it was. For me the Beach Blast match with Steamboat is my go to see him at his best.

Most of the stuff I really remember from him was his work in WCW, two of my all-time favorite feuds are him vs Sting and him vs Ricky Steamboat. Both had great matches and pre-match build up. I have gone back and watched much of his stuff before this, at the time, I use to go to blockbuster almost weekly and rent any and all wrestling tapes I could find. His work in the WWF with Jake the Snake, the Ultimate Warrior and Roddy Piper was excellent. If I had to pick a favorite match of his, it would either be the 1989 Summer Slam match with the Ultimate Warrior or the 1992 Beach Blast match with Ricky Steamboat, both 4 or 5 star matches in my opinion. Another great match is his MSG steel cage match with Roddy Piper in 1989, it was on one of those Coliseum Home Video collections, I think it was called Superheroes of Wrestling. I would have loved for him to have returned to the WWF in the mid 90s and wrestled guys like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and Razor Ramon. In 1995, the WWF was in need of a top tier heel and I think Rick Rude would have been perfect (had he not gotten injured the year before). I also think Rude could have transitioned well into the attitude era and worked with guys like Austin, the Rock, Triple H and the Undertaker. For some reason, in 1989/90, I thought they were setting up a feud between Rude and Perfect, I think those two could have had some great matches.

Best feud is probably with Ultimate Warrior, maybe with Jake Roberts. Rude managed to make even a posedown wildly entertaining and that's no small feat. The gimmick with having insulting images sprayed onto his tights is one of the best little touches ever.
Best match is probably the already mentioned iron man match, though the most impressive thing that he did was carry Ultimate Warrior to multiple quality matches.
I'd have liked it if Rude had won a recognized world heavyweight title rather than the International World Heavyweight Champion. If he had gotten it for a short run during Warrior's reign or had it during his Vader feud (if he was healthier) that would have been great. I could also see Rude being a big asset in the Attitude Era had he been healthy, as he only turned 40 at the tail end of 1998. Something like Rude vs an up and coming Rock in 1998 would have been tremendous.

Love Rick Rude.
Loved his feuds in WWF with Jake & Warrior & his membership in the Heenan family..
In WCW though he was absolutely brilliant. As part of the Dangerous alliance He was just on fire.....Sting, Steamboat etc were fantastic feuds.
incredible in ring talent....pity he got hurt or his legacy in the biz would have been even more impressive than his relatively short run.
