As a Hitman fan I will say my favorite HBK era was when he lost his smile and was off my TV for five years.

91-94 was peak Shawn IMO He was trailblazing, and his cocky heel persona was so much easier to get on board with than his cocky face persona. His 96 Vince McMahon-on-commentary-orgasming period was insufferable. I wish I could like this 1500 times. This period of Vince's commentary is nauseating to say the least. It takes me out of the Mind games match vs Foley which I adore

I voted for 88-98, but the second one was great too! Lots of awesome matches in both periods.

To this day I'm very surprised Vince didn't start him at #1 to win this RR. He was clearly that high on him....

It's probably the most prevalent "superman booking" I've ever seen even aside from Vince's commentarygasms.

I heard that Shawn was not too high on that idea the year before, he didn't like the idea that he would have to wrestle for 50 minutes to an hour, that is why the rumble match the year before was 1 minute intervals, this way he was only wrestling about 30-35 minutes.

I like his early run as a overall wrestler. Persona, promos, matches. His second run had better matches at the top end, but he also had better wrestlers to face.

with DX & Michaels 100% confirmed to add the Outlaws, Waltman & turn face? I think his DX persona would have been a complete riot in the 98 scene. I could see HHH turning heel far sooner on the group. HBK would have been crazy over with that gimmick when the AE really kicked into high gear.

I didn't start watching till around 95ish so I didn't see a lot of him other than old tapes I would rent until his 2002 return and I loved that entire run. I think he had some of his best matches and feuds, especially the entire Jericho feud from around 07 or 08. The two mania matches with Taker, the mania match with Flair, the first elimination chamber, the 60 minute match with Cena on raw, both 2004 triple threats. He had a ton of memorable matches and moments from that time period

Being a 2000's baby I should say his second run. It was the run that pushed an all-time great into the GOAT conversation. But my favorite era of HBK is his heel run from '97-'98. Heel Shawn is best Shawn. Shawn arguably had more classic matches in his second run but I would say his overall match quality was better in his first run which is completely understandable due to injuries. Either one you vote for it doesn't matter, HBK is one of if not the greatest wrestlers ever.

I think it's a tragedy that the man who built the Attitude Era couldn't be a top guy during it's peak. But him being out for over four years is what saved him.

Shawn till 1998 is fantastic, and was at his best in-ring. Even though with all the backstage stories/drugs etc, Shawn gave it his all but I think they were just late on giving him the strap. 1995 was the best time for it.
