I feel like these are things that people want for no other reason than other figures in the market have them and people just want Mattel to do something new. They’re now starting to remind me of the figuarts figures which are absolutely dreadful. The HHH, Taker, Rock etc that they did sucked so bad and Mattel elites were far superior.
In reality, the majority of collectors of old school figures collect but don’t play with their figures. The number one priority for me and I imagine most collectors is the aesthetics and accuracy of the figure.
Aesthetically speaking, the butterfly joints look horrible. Hogan just about gets away with it as they’re covered if you put his vest on. With no vest he looks like he’s wearing a chest plate or body armour that hasn’t been painted. Only certain figures can benefit or get away with that torso articulation without it looking horrible or weird and I’d say women like the Chyna figure and some of the super heavyweights like Mabel.
Nobody can honestly say the butterfly joints improve the look of a figure, they make them look worse. The shoulder and chest connection looks an absolute mess...so is the ‘added articulation’ really worth it? Not for me. Hope Mattel dump them.

I really not a fan of the butterfly joints. It takes away the inspiration of the body mold and natural feeling.
