Hogan over Austin? I think they're 1A and 1B. Rocky should be lower lmao. I dont believe Hogan/Austin are really nearly as close as people want them to be. Yes I realize that the argument for Austin is the money he drew but first we have to consider inflation, not sure if anyone has done the math but Id be interested to see it. You also have to consider the availability of merchandise. In the 80s if you wanted a Hogan shirt you got it from the magazine or a live event. If you wanted an Austin shirt in the 90s you could literally get one anywhere, including Walmart. There's also the argument of "Without Hogan there would be no WWF" which is factually accurate, without Hogan there is no Austin but it just doesnt include the foundation that he laid in the 80s. Hogan jumped ship to WCW in 1994. Once politics got in the way, Hogans buddies were in and guys like Austin were out. Then because of Hogan you get the nWo hype and the game changed. It made Vince step up and the days of Clowns, trashmen and race car drivers went away...Once WWF made their change, because of Hogan reinventing himself, on comes Austin. Right right, but I prefer Austin over Hogan. But either way if someone asks me who's the greatest professional wrestler ever I always say Flair. But my Mount Rushmore is Flair, Hogan, Austin, Taker. For most of The Rock's top run he was either the 2nd top babyface behind Austin or he was Austin's replacement as the top face while Austin was either injured or turned heel. Rock has been a movie star for 20 years, which far outweighs his time as a wrestler. Rock isn't as high as people think he is. At this point I'd say more people know Rock as "the actor who used to be a wrestler" then they do as a wrestler. |

The question was where he ranks all-time. By what metrics are you measuring it? Well seeing as it's my thread I'll say kayfabe accomplishments and name recognition. He's a 14 time World Champion, longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 2000's (I'm pretty sure), multi-time Tag Team Champion, 2 time Royal Rumble winner and 1 time Money In The Bank winner. He was one of the most popular and well known wrestlers of the 2000's and 2010's. He may not be Hogan, Rock, Flair, Austin, or Cena levels of popular but he's pretty well known. Kayfabe accomplishments, I suppose he's in the top twenty. He's more decorated than Hogan, Austin, Rock... |

Well seeing as it's my thread I'll say kayfabe accomplishments and name recognition. He's a 14 time World Champion, longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 2000's (I'm pretty sure), multi-time Tag Team Champion, 2 time Royal Rumble winner and 1 time Money In The Bank winner. Arguably guys like DiBiase, Perfect, Slaughter, and Warrior are also better.
Including NWA and AWA, he’s not even in the conversation.
WWE-wise he’s definitely tiers below icons like Hogan, Austin, and Flair, and also tiers below megastars like HBK and HHH

I am fascinated by how many wrestlers say that he is one of the smartest, and greatest guys they have worked with when it comes to putting a match together. I mean there are countless guys who say either he is the best they have been in the ring with or one of the best. It caused Meltzer to meltdown a few months ago after I guess is was Dax said it, Meltzer couldn’t figure out how the best isn’t a guy who goes out there to have the best workrate match every night. Alvarez even was jumping on Meltzer talking about how Wrestlers view the business from a completely different perspective than fans.

Meltzer loves flips and guys getting dropped on their heads, and Orton is one of the smoothest, safest, pro wrestlers so I can see why Daddy Dave doesn’t rate him. Co-workers who take bumps three or four nights a week (back in the old days with crowds) are bound to be more appreciative. |

Watching the broken skull sessions with Orton, he is a ridiculously smart guy when talking about the business. I can see why so many wrestlers say he is the greatest wrestler they have ever worked with.

Is he better in the ring than Orton? Sure. Is he better on the mic than Orton? Could be debated I’m sure. Did he bring in as much money as Orton? Was he as over as Orton? Did he have the longevity Orton has? I don’t think so, no. |

It depends what list. He barely makes top 20 in WWE. In Pro Wrestling in general? Not even top 50.

I think there is an argument for top 20 in WWE for sure... maybe even top 15. He's kind of weirdly underrated... that said, he wouldn't make my top 25 favorite list.

I put him in “Great, but not all time.” If we are exclusively looking at the WWF/WWE, I think there’s an argument he’s in the back half of the top 20, but looking at the history of the industry as a whole, I don’t think he’s top 20. Top 50, sure, I can see that, but not top 20 when there’s been so many past stars that seemed to hit a higher level of stardom than Randy (in-ring he’s one of the best when he’s focused, but the overall package doesn’t hold up to others IMO).

I haven't watched his entire career, so I couldn't fairly rate him, but I will say that once a little time passes, I think that will only improve his all-time ranking in many minds. He's had an amazing career.
