Lets say he also doesnt have his issues with pills
He loses to Austin at Mania, does he go away still THEN come back after a few months and maybe feud with HHH? HHH could bash Michaels after Mania saying he dropped the ball then HBK comes back to challenge him
Does Shawn stick around and stay in the upper level of the main event?
Or does he got to WCW and partne rup with NASH and Hall as they try to take over the locker room?
A hbk/sting feud would be cool

I wonder with the Austin juggernaut taking off and the rise of the Rock, Mankind et al, would Vince have been willing to tolerate the behaviour of Shawn for much longer? Maybe it was easier to send the Drugged up Michaels home in 99/00 as he was in retirement, but with the WWF surpassing WCW it seemed like they became less tolerable of his behaviour in general.
A trip to WCW would have been interesting. How does he and Bret cooperate within the same company? With the back up of fellow politicians Nash and Hall, I don’t see a match between the two - same as WWF, neither man would lay down for the other. I think the eventual let down of Hogan/Sting would serve as a blueprint for a potential Shawn/Sting match.
I don’t wish pain on anyone but I think Shawn retiring when he did (albeit temporarily) worked out for the best.

You would have had, backstage, Flair's faction, Nash/Hall/Hbk and their guys (Konnan), Hogans faction, Bret's faction
Good lord teh drama!!!

This comes up often....What was happening post WM14 was 100% mapped out before RR98. 100%.
HBK & HHH wanted NAO in DX. Vince said yes...but not now..... DX was going to get Tyson so too many cooks in the kitchen (correct decision)
DX including HBK was scheduled to go face shortly after WM14 because the only guy they were getting heel reactions against was Austin. McMahon and his cohorts were going to be the #1 heels on the show as authority figures. It made no sense for DX to remain heels with their reactions and the gimmick under these conditions.
HBK was said to reluctantly agree to this but only if the DX act wasn't altered antics/personality wise.
HBKs dickhead character as the leader of DX would have been a riot in 98. I personally think we see a HHH heel turn betraying the group much much sooner. HBK would want him pushed and want to work with him so this would be the way.
