...there was a finger poke of doom and Mick Foley put a lot of butts in the seats!
So the most exciting Monday Night War took place on this day in 1999. Two big title matches for each show, two big title changes on each show. One solidified it's dominance in the Monday Night War, the other solidified its own demise.
With all that being said, what was everyone doing that night?? What show were you watching?? Did you do the "flip the channel" or were you dedicated to just one show??
For me, I didn't watch any that night. I lived in the country, satellite was down, so no Raw or Nitro. My buddy taped Raw on TSN which is a Canadian sports channel and we watched it on Tuesday during spare when we had no classes. I never seen the WCW Nitro episode until years later when I got it via website of a torrent kind.
Looking back at it, Raw was definitely the more interesting show though that night. From what I heard, Nitro was actually winning the ratings that night until Schiavone told the WCW fans that Foley was going to win the Title that night. Crazy how WCW devised their own demise.

It was the Friday night wars here...Was watching Raw. My interest in WCW was starting to wane so I was taping it & going to watch Saturday morning.
That Austin pop which is the biggest pop in wrestling history was amazing. It still is
Nitro..ah lord 🙈🙈. I was like wtf when I heard them giving away the raw result. Then came one of the biggest wrestling atrocities in history...the fingerpoke.
I groaned...still do.

Wasn't the Fingerpoke Vince Russo's bright idea?

Wasn't the Fingerpoke Vince Russo's bright idea? Pretty sure Russo was with the WWF at the time.

Wasn't the Fingerpoke Vince Russo's bright idea? Nope. Russo didn't leave WWF until Oct 99. This was January 99. The fingerpoke is 100% on the WCW booker man at the time...the most prolific liar in wrestling.....Kevin Nash. It's absolutely pathetic to try hear him defend flushing 9 months of storyline in 10 seconds.

I was watching nitro at my house in college with friends. We switched over to Raw and didn’t really ever go back

I was watching Raw and taping Nitro when I was in. If I was out? Id tape them both but Raw usually got watched first because of Austin. WCW was wearing on me by the end of 1998. It was very repetitive had lost some interesting guys to injury and WWF after SSeries 1998 with Rock on top and the Corporate Team was an effin juggernaut. It was legit cant miss TV

The whole Sting/Hogan Starrcade stuff was a mess but they did rebound from it. The finger poke on the other hand was a crucial blow that they never recovered from in the end.
Really sad when you look back at how great WCW once was and you look at their final years and man did they drop far. Shame.

By that time I had dropped off of WCW because Goldberg. I stopped watching when he beat Hogan. I was nine so that’s hilarious to me. Anyways, watched RAW live that night and lost my mind.
