Good morning all, as I drove to work this morning bumping some old school bay area mob music, I got to wondering what everyone's favorite flow type (Mac Lethal did a great video on the many types of flows, and even an artist changes flow/style frequently) and beat style were? Beat selections and flows don't always match each other either, like an east coast flow over a west coast beat...that pure hip hop flow over that grooving beat; not something that meshes for me, but people love.
I am a 90s rap cat, so give me that mob style or g-funk with the flow to match it (Nate Dogg and Warren G still Regulate!), and I am one happy dude. I learned to like some of that southern flow like Lil' Troy, and was a 'Lo from way back, so them midwest bangers got me going with the scary beats and happy/evil flow. On a summer night though, put on Lil' Rob - Summer Nights and cruise with a coffee in hand....like I say, moods, man. Just keep the heavy bass away from my eardrums....I gotta let the groove flow.
Hope to hear everyone's thoughts. Much respect!

I had no idea about any of those terms, but my general rule is - if it sounds good to my ear I'll listen. I do like 90's style hip hop with that low-fi sound, and 90's rap with that passion and good rhythmic beat behind it. I'm always open to finding new music so I guess today I'll be on spotify listening to listening to some new stuff! Always open to suggestions.

There are so very many types that sometimes it is hard to suggest rap that is amenable to someone. That smooth sound is g-funk all day. Do some Warren G, Nate Dogg, Daz, etc. Check out 'Magic Girl' for some new style bay area g-funkishness; she is amazing with that Roger Troutman machine.

Mac Miller Juice Wrld MGK Chance the rapper Lil Dicky Post Malone G-Eazy Eminem Drake
These are a few I’ll go through phases of listening to on rotation. I get made fun of for my preferences. I’m not claiming to be a rap expert but I appreciate it. I just can’t sit here and say that 90s rap is what I can relate to and identify with personally.

Lil Dicky is so witty, really enjoy his stuff. Eminem is classic, really great lyricist, and Drake is actually good too despite what people may think. I never got into Mac Miller, Post Malone, and Chance, but I'll have to listen. Never heard of the others but I'll add them to the list too.

I'm an 80s baby, grew up in the golden era of hip hop in the 90s. I'm from Texas, but I've always preferred the east coast sound. Lyrics have always taken precedent for me.

Really big on 2Pac's flow. Early Eminem through about 2003 maybe, too. He had a period where he was unreal. His flow has changed too much over the years, but for a time period...maaan.
As for the beat, I'm a '90s g-funk guy, too. That's why I love early Eminem... great flow, relatable, and the Bass Brothers (produced for George Clinton) did a lot of the production on his early work. Dre gets too much credit.
But if I had to pick just one, I'll take 2Pac all day. His g-funk stuff is some of my favorite music out there. Here's a rarity (if it was released, it was with a new and crapty beat...this is the original with Nate Dogg):
The version that Afeni had posthumously released is trash.

Oh yeah... I also love east coast beats, too. Huge into Wu Tang. Used to like Nas, but it's been a minute. Love De La Soul, too... Prince Paul-anything is gold. The Gravediggaz.... this is bringing me back.
Here's a Wu Tang song from a mix with Fugazi, fan release, but just really cool:
I love Wu-Tang in general though... really love ODB and GZA.
