So even guys like Malenko & Benoit aren't considered here as they had personas and characters they embodied (the iceman/the crippler). Even Lance Storm had plenty of memorable talking segments based on the fact he was so serious and gimmick free, plus he was basically Mr. Canada, so he won't count either.
Here we are talking about those who had no gimmick, flashy look or moniker to really play off of. Maybe they rarely cut promos or are not remembered for them but are renowned purely for their ability bell to bell. For me, I would have to say Jerry Lynn, he wrestled, did so really really well and that was who he was.

"No Gimmick Needed" Chris Candido. Seriously though, you have to go with old timers like Bruno Sammartino, Nick Bockwinkel, etc. Jerry Lynn was Mr JL, doesnt that count as a gimmick?

dory funk jr, the briscos, Lou thesz, Bruno Sammartino, Verne Gagne... I would add Bob Backlund’s original WWF run to the list. Hated when he came back as Mr Backlund.

Brock Lesnar stands out as this type of wrestler. He's never really had a gimmick because he didn't need to be sold. He was sold with his legit-grappler background, and he hasn't changed that much in nearly 20 years. He just added to his aura by establishing his MMA career. His promos have always been basic, but he obviously benefitted from Heyman at his side.
This is a really good topic. I can't think of many wrestlers who could fit into this category. Even most of the legit tough guys (or gals) usually had to develop some type of persona, even if it was understated, to sell themselves as an attraction.

I would include Dean Malenko in that because other than his "Iceman" nickname, he did nothing gimmick-wise nor did he do anything to embody the nickname other than to just be stoic and hardnose.
Charlie Haas 2004-2005, 2006-2007 didn't really have anything. Even if he portrayed a white you-know-what for a short period.
You could count loads of guys who's gimmicks just fizzled out into basically just nostalgia. Like Val Venis after 2003.

Barry ing Windham.....I know later on he had The Stalker gimmick and they called him the Widowmaker even though literally nothing changed about him but he's easily one of the smoothest & best workers in his days and he was so awkward on the mic...even his hall of fame speech was odd.
