Disagree. Beyond just my above post, which I thoroughly stand behind, I think we're seeing a shifting in preference to more athletic and agile wrestlers, which often are going to be in the 5'10-6'2 range. They can still look pretty darn good, like Kota ibushi looks like a freaking Greek god. A couple of giants like Archer serve a role of course. Ok but could Kota Ibushi main event a WrestleMania that draws the interest of all the boomers who quit watching wrestling when "muh steve austin turned bad" in 2001? That's a totally different question, and the answer has nothing to do with Kota's size, popularity, and I don't think even the topic at hand. No one needs those boomers to return. The goal is to build a new, younger, audience, which AEW is doing. It's the youngest skewing audience. The second part, is that when we really step back and evaluate wrestlings popularity back then, it had nothing to do with wrestling. It was a few larger than life personalities that took hold and transcended wrestling. The same way Tiger Woods did for golf, Conor McGregor did for MMA, etc, etc, etc. It's not something that can be manufactured. It just happens organically. Every sport has their ups and downs that come with those people, and you can't force it.

It's kind of my fault for mentioning Kota, but it was to illustrate that AEW is not the only super successful major promotion that has a roster this size physically.

The big guys like a Goldberg or Batista or John Cena or still bigger draws than anyone on AEW or WWE. Hell I bet Hogan could put more butts in the seats. Wrestling has gotten away from the big steroid larger than life guys, but the audience has shrunk as well.
The big muscle guys draw more than smaller guys or women’s wrestling. The numbers and facts support it. Plays into the psychological aspect of believability. If that guy is 6’7” 300lbs I want to see him kick some ass, draws in casual fans.

I'm not even arguing whether it's true or not because I don't know, but is Goldberg in 2021 seriously a draw? Like, are there actually people who stopped watching wrestling in the mid '00s who are coming back because they want to watch Goldberg wrestle for less than five minutes?
Call me skeptical but I just question the concept of a "casual" wrestling fan. I feel like you either watch it or don't, and no one person is going to bring you back (especially a 50 year old).

The wrestling audience who watched Goldberg during his initial WCW run and later WWE run has shrunken significantly. Their is a core audience that remains today. The concept of a draw today is who will grow that number on top of the core audience. Goldberg will attract eyeballs that are not consistent viewers or apart of that core audience. Same with guys like Batista or Cena or a Hogan. As we have seen, Rollins or Reigns will bring in the core audience. It takes other stars to possibly get that number over the usual hump sort of speak.

I think the idea of a casual fan is not the type of person you're trying to target anyways. They're the ones who are always going to "channel flip" (yes so many stream now it's a misnamed concept now don't @ me lol). You're trying to attract actual growth that is maintainable. Not trying to hot shot to get casual fans to suddenly changed their viewing habits.

They avoided big names and brought in some on the peripheral. Jericho to me still has a lot left in the tank, so he’s not a washed up legend like a Goldberg.
