Wait, it's seriously just the same style of figure under a different SKU? Except it might have different styles of figure sometimes? That doesn't seem logistically possible, that second part. None of this makes sense to me. That's exactly what it is. It's basically a way to 'trick' retailers into giving you more shelf space. They may do the odd fun style like the way Classic Superstars used to do the odd LJN styled figure, but yeah. It's going to be the exact same type of figures, they just need a unique name for line 2 so they can take up more shelf space and get more retail presence. I guess what's tripping me up is that usually a separate SKU will have a specific theme to differentiate it. Like Marvel Legends will have movie, X-Men, or Spider-Man waves to get those extra pegs. Or WWE will do the event waves. Or you can always do cheaper price point figures for kids like with the Basics. I can't believe they got retailers to buy the same thing.

I think the chances of this line backing up at retail aren't that high. They ship 6 figure cases, so there isn't anchor talent in the way that other lines might handle it. Not having those double packed figures should help keep inventory moving, and I think also makes the repaints a little more justified. I'm sure there will still be the occasional figure that hangs around on the pegs. But the Unmatched/Unrivaled cycle and the case config should make it pretty tough for any one figure to back up retail unless they release a real dud.

I agree, not double packing figures will help figures move off the shelf. Ironically, better distribution will help us get figures but increase the chances of some of these repaints sticking around on the shelves. Super curious who's going to be in Unmatched.

Honestly the repaints are kinda valuable in that the figures are still so hard to get for people. I talk to a lot of fans on a wrestling blog who aren't usually collectors but are interested in the AEW line because they love the promotion so much. But none of them can find the figures, and a lot of them have balked at RSC's prices. So if this helps big fans/non-collectors get a Mox or Omega, that's probably useful.
That's a big if, though. You don't want product to stick around too long, but AEW's getting the opposite problem where the amount of sell-through might actually be hurting the line's chances of expanding. It's reminding me a bit of DC Universe Classics where people were excited about the line but couldn't find it.

I haven't followed the whole thread, so forgive me if this has been discussed ad nauseum but I don't think we have to worry about the length of time it will take to see new faces. In 5 waves of just one type of series, we've already got over a dozen characters/gimmicks, most of which have never had an action figure of themselves before, and it's only been 5 waves! When the other line kicks in, we'll have figure overload.

They definitely need to close the gap between demand and availability sooner than later or they're going to lose people. Especially those non-collectors or casual buyers you mentioned. Amazon should help a lot, and I'm starting to see figures at retail with some consistency. But totally agree with all of your points.

I actually saw a bunch of figures today. I was only looking for chases and a MOMC regular Moxley so I didn’t buy anything in most of the stores. It was a little frustrating because I was looking for only chases but it was good to be seeing figures consistently. Today was the first time I saw multiple cases of figures in one store at the same time which has to be a good sign for supply Also I did find a Moxley and a chase so I walked away happy in the end
