Been watching 2004 Raw recently, and ignoring the rumors that the voting was rigged, has it even been talked about what plans would have been had Edge won the fan vote to fight for the world title? He was turning heel leading up to the event but was still considered a tweener. It wasn’t until HBK won the vote that Edge turned full heel that night.
Had Benoit won the vote it’s pretty obvious he’d have lost the match like HBK did, but an Edge loss doesn’t seem as certain. Had Edge won the vote, does he win the title? Does he remain a tweener, or do they continue with a heel turn for him? Never heard about this in any interviews so just curious if anyone has heard anything on this.
(And if the fan vote was legit, I find it funny Edge didn’t win considering fans always seem to ask for “fresh” matchups yet voted for a match we’d seen 100 times by that point and HBK had a legit knee injury).

Couldnt see Edge winning the belt that night even if he got voted in.He was in the midst of turning full heel so he had ways to go to fully develop his Rated R character.Them pulling the trigger at NYR 06 was the perfect time.
If he fought Trips here I see Trips cheating to retain and we get the full blown heel turn on the following Raw.

I would expect that Edge would lose the match due to interference - either Batista helping Triple H and nobody helping him, or Michaels/Benoit trying to counter Batista's interference and accidentally costing Edge the match. But people hated Edge at the time, so it's very unlikely he'd have won any fan vote anyway. All of the fan vote choices either had pretty predictable outcomes, or three choices that were basically the same thing. The only exception I can think of is the IC title match.

I have to say, the fact that we all still wonder if the 2004 Taboo Tuesday was real or worked shows how great the WWE did at that time to book that PPV for us.
To this day, I am not 100% sure what was fan influenced that night, or what was already planned and set to be by the WWE. If everything was planned by the WWE that night, then they did a helluva job to make us think we had a say in what went down.
I can't say the following for the 2005 Taboo Tuesday. That PPV seemed so planned for some reason.

For what it's worth Jim Ross answered this question many times. He said the voting was 100% legit.
