Hello my Wfig brethren, as a music aficionado, it bring me much joy to discuss intricacies of music and their effects on people. I have gone through many topics in my head lately, but landed here.... I was thinking about parts of songs that evoke the strongest emotion for me, be it anticipation, melancholy, or hair raising feelings.
For you all, which parts of which songs give you that hair on the back of your neck stands up feeling? Well, maybe just the all encompasing feeling that you get only from that portion of a song?
Phil Collin's drum solo in the middle of "In the Air Tonight" gets me everytime. Just thinking about it gives me chills. That evokes pure senses tingling emotion for me.
The jazz sections at the end of both The Nixon's self titled album, and Eagle Eye Cherry's Desireless raised the hair on the back of my neck when I first heard them.
Flaw does that truth bomb, aha feeling, in the middle of "World's Divide".
I will leave that portion of the lyrics as my adieu....maybe it will help someone else how it did me.
"Don't give up because it's hope that binds us Pain that guides us Who do we trust when those things remind us? It's hope that guides us Pain that binds us Who do we trust when they're not behind us?"

Johnny Cash - Hurt; I swear you can feel the pain in Cash's voice as he sings a song that feels like it was written for him even though it is a cover. Motorhead - God Was Never On Your Side; Never listen to this song right after getting any kind of bad news or experiencing one of those "life isn't fair" moments.

Theme of Laura Reprise - Silent Hill 2 Kind of cheating, I listen to this vinyl all the time and every time I hear this I think of Angela on the stairs.

Burning Heart
🎶 In the warrior's code There's no surrender Though his body says stop His spirit cries, never Deep in our soul A quiet ember Knows it's you against you It's the paradox That drives us on It's a battle of wills In the heat of attack It's the passion that kills The victory is yours alone 🎶

A Life with Love is a Life that's been lived is a beautiful line from Ed Sheeran's Supermarket Flowers

Johnny Cash - Hurt; I swear you can feel the pain in Cash's voice as he sings a song that feels like it was written for him even though it is a cover. It’s that voice man. See also his version of Sunday Morning Coming Down.

I could probably go and make a list, but I'll stick to this. It is the contrast between these two songs by Seventh Wonder; The Truth and By the Light of the Funeral Pyres.
They play one after another on the album which is a concept album telling a story from front to back. The Truth is a very uplifting and tense song that builds to a point of failure rather than triumph, ending in a fade out to silence and a single spoken line by a little girl. By the Light of the Funeral Pyres immediately picks up with a fast and frantic song to display the chaos that the decision made in The Truth brought about. Just the first few notes are enough to send shivers down my spine.
Honestly, Seventh Wonder as a whole are a band that I feel can evoke emotion through music very, very well. I highly recommend them if you're into prog and/or power metal.
