Recently started slowly collecting again the last few months. Got a little bit of holy grail figure for me today in FC Sting through the post and then thought to myself that I’ve just about got enough now in number to show them off a little bit. Oh and yes I’m a basic collector only. I hope to change peoples minds about basics, they get such a bad rep but I think they are such great figures for 9.99 and you can get so so many attires you can’t get as an elite. This Sting is such a clean striking figure, along with the orange/blue NS figure it’s one of his best imo. I’ve always wanted it but found it difficult to find for a bargain but finally took the plunge and I’m so glad I own him now. Also recently got the Flair v Giant 2 pack and I have to say both are great figures, I was going to sell Giant but it’s really good apart from the lack of chest hair. The Flair head sculpt in person is brilliant. One of my favourites. I’ll add picks of any pick ups in future as I go along. Cheers for looking!     |

Great pick ups - that Sting is indeed a must have, shame he only usually pops up with Taker and I don’t need another figure of grey gloves Taker! Haha
Will probably try and get that Flair as well, although I’m not sold on Giant (I have his Elite). What’s the scan like?

Hat on and facing down so I don’t have to see his face lol. As for Giant, the scan/paint is absolutely fantastic, seriously one of the best heads they have done, the hair could be a touch lighter but it’s not jet black or anything either. For me, the only thing that lets it down is the lack of any real definition on his chest and a lack of chest hair. |

Basics used to be great, but since they’ve been kept to a $10 price point for 10-11 years they’ve suffered so much. I only buy the women that may not get an elite for awhile or ever. I don’t need them to do all the poses but I’d like the knees to feel like they won’t break (and how many 8 year olds are gonna get out the hot water or hairdryer to fix it.) The boots I like without the peg. Don’t fall over as easy. The arms and lack of deco kills it for me. Just don’t make a figure or attire if you can’t do it (Kofi etc.) Is be fine paying 12 for the old style but I don’t know if that’s possible especially since the retailers are the ones pushing for a $10 piece of plastic.

Great stuff. When I first started collecting, I definitely planned on being basics-only. You couldn't beat the price, at the time there were a ton of Legends basics coming out, and I absolutely hated the aesthetic of a big, ugly hinge in the middle of the chest.
My collection is mostly Elites now, since so many legends are only available as Elites. But some of my favorite figures (TRU surfer Sting, X-Pac) are basics.

Wow -- that Sting is great. The Basics I see now on the pegs are such poor quality, it seems like a whole different line from this one...
