Recently I visited a local thrift shop where I occasionally find figures and notice a group of scalpers hanging in the back by the toy isle. I've noticed them previously in my visits there but this time I hung around and monitored their actions. They linger by the doorway where the employees come out with the new items and immediately hawk the carts as soon as they arrive.
There was this one lady shouting "I see UFC" referring to a moc Jakks UFC figure resting on top of the cart before she snatched it as others raffled through the items. After grabbing what they want they place them in their shopping carts and continue to wait until the next batch of items come out. I glance inside their carts and sure enough they've got whatever WWE Mattel figures that never even made it to the shelf.
Becoming aware of this I just got a pure sense of disgust and couldn't imagine dealing with the hassle of competing with these selfish individuals for some figures. The times I was lucky enough to find figures there they were where they supposed to be on the shelf. It seems like these scalpers are out there depleting whatever is left of these figures.

Everyone has a whole lot of nothing and think it’s worth something. It’s in every collectible hobby now. Cards, figures, games, everything.
Mr. Classic Superstars and the Major jabronis are partially to blame for it too

Ah yes the “they got there before me” scalpers. Just like the “the guy that opened the case to grab one figure” scalper

Are scalpers people who employ tactics some might deem "extreme" to get figures before someone else is able to? I guess I'm only asking because I missed the part of the story where you were able to confirm that they were just buying them to sell later.

I had something similar happen...
I was at my buddy's toy shop and he had one Hulk Hogan Elite 34 mint in box marked for 70 bucks. As we were talking some guy asked if he could see so my buddy says sure and hands him the box, while that guy is looking at the figure another dude walks up and says I will give you 90 for it as the other guy was still checking the figure out LOL So the other guys says I will give you 95 lol and all of a sund a bidding war breaks out, long story short the dude that walked in bought the figure for 160 bucks! lol Any of you guys see anything crazy like this in regard to WWE Mattel figures and I'm not talking about the insane prices on ebay lol.
I love you.

Yeah, I’ve come across wrestling figures at second hand stores that hadn’t hit shelves yet and asked if I could buy them and did. Don’t see the issue here or any evidence of scalping.

Why the hell are people donating unopened figures anyway? This isn't toys for tots. Donate socks.

And the woman shouts “I GOT HOGAN” as I see a MOC Elite 34 Hulk Hogan sitting atop the cart
and sure enough she got all the WWE Mattel Hulk Hogans from the cart
Then the bidding war starts

I love you. I was thinking about this earlier today as I was eating dinner and in my opinion a WM 8 Hulk Hogan Elite could be one of the top sellers ever for Mattel. Think about it, Red and Yellow Hulk with the American Flag in the middle of his shirt with Hulk at the top and Hogan at the bottom. Accessories could include the eagle WWE title which belongs to Hulk and the USA flag that could fit in Hogan's hand. In my opinion that is the definite version of Hulk Hogan we need considering we already got WM 3 Hulk with DM. Of course I would not be against another mid 80's Hogan but I think we would all prefer the Mega Powers version but would understand the desire for another WM 3 Hogan considering many people don't want to pay over 100 dollars for DM Hulk Hogan. I am pinning all my hopes on more Hogan figures at WM axxess.

I've definitely seen plenty of MIB toys at thrift stores, even if the OP is a work of fiction. Sometimes it's just someone clearing out a basement or storage unit, other times stores will dump product that doesn't sell and take the tax write off. But never anything from Mattel. I saw a bunch of the OSTM ECW figures on card and in good shape aside from some yellowing on the bubble maybe 2 or 3 years ago.

I posted this experience to express my disgust for those who are depriving others from the experience of finding figures on the shelves. Won't argue or try to prove anything to those accusing me of being one of them. I'm on the verge of distancing myself from the hobby altogether. In fact this will be my last post. Goodbye!

That UFC Jakks was the giveaway for me, considering the history with that line and this board. There have been a weird ton of posts lately of ridiculous stories.
