Vince doesn't feel AEW is any threat Nor should he ever have. I'm one of the biggest AEW Stoooo-gez (BTE fans hopefully will catch that one. RIP Brodie Lee) on this site, but the idea they were ever a threat to run WWE out of business is insane. That was never their goal either. I don't know where that false narrative came from, but it was never a target for AEW to try and run WWE out of the building. Things work better for both companies when both companies exist. Monopolies are bad and economically inefficient. Produces a worse product. From a PR perspective, this move makes sense for both guys too. A few WWE superfans see this and think "huh, maybe AEW isn't this evil thing trying to kill the product I love, I'll check it out". Likewise, a few AEW superfans can hopefully see this move and go "huh, maybe everything WWE does isn't designed to try and run AEW into the ground and prevent it from existing. Maybe I give it a shot again too". I'm not saying this is suddenly gonna move the dial a ton for either company, but it might help start getting rid of some of that useless tension held by a select minority of vocal "fans". Personally, seeing this happen made me feel better about both companies. I'm more excited about Wrestlemania tonight, and I'm more excited about Dynamite on Wednesday.

The 2 hours and a bit flew by, i always find these entertaining and this was no exception, there was so much Jericho didn't even get into so could easily do a part 2 down the line.

I love that stone cold was into the Blanton's. he's looking a bit older, which makes sense, cause he is.
very cool interview. can tell they both have immense respect for each other.

Good show but I’m getting a little tired of hearing the same stories Over and over. Granted, I’ve been listening to wrestling podcasts for about 9 years as well as all the behind the scenes docs but I swear it’s the same stories over and over again.

I knew he was going to tell the Dominos pizza/locked out of his hotel room story from the night he won the Undisputed title. I also groaned a bit when Austin asked him how he got into the business. It’s just such a generic question that nobody can answer without saying “it was a lot different back then.”

I’ve got maybe 20-30 minutes left on the interview and I’m Not expecting to learn anything new. But I’ll finish it nonetheless lol

This is a clear as day introduction to AEW for the casual WWE fan. I’d bet on them working together in the very near future
WWE has been around a long time, they RARELY mention the competition on TV, they erase their own stars when they go to a competitor as to say we don’t even want you to THINK about them, and find out they are with another company. They just don’t do these things. Saying “Vince doesn’t find them to be a threat” makes no sense. So what would this accomplish then? Being on a larger competitors network makes them LESS known? Vince just helped them out then, didn’t he?
-They not only had an AEW star on their programming, they mentioned AEW by name countless times as well as put up a visual of Jericho with the AEW Championship. This is advertising
-They moved NXT to a night that won’t directly compete with AEW’s brand name show. Businesses do this when they want to play nice.
I swear, I thought from day 1 that WWE must realize the business was never better then when they had another company to use as a feeder system. Jericho became an instant star because he came over from WCW to the WWF. They all see it

Did he use the whole interview to put himself over?

Did he use the whole interview to put himself over? I mean, it’s Jericho. The words, I have had the greatest career in the business were used haha. In all truthfulness though I thought he was more genuine and humble than he usually is. But it’s still Jericho

The WWF was all about being the only wrestling show you needed to know about, because you didn’t want to give WCW any more fans and risk them taking the #1 spot. Now, WWE owns pretty much everything, and there’s no danger in acknowledging and promoting smaller niche promotions like AEW and ROH, even if they’re unaffiliated. They’re nowhere near challenging WWE’s spot. Vince has helped other small promotions before - other than Paul Heyman’s parents, he probably spent more money than anyone else on ECW. If WWE ever gets any competition, they probably won’t acknowledge them.

Yea but even as recently as when TNA was gaining momentum, they would remove the guys that left for TNA from the intro graphics, they would never mention them on TV or exclude them from conversations that clearly they would be part of had they still been with the company, they would act as though they never existed. I wouldn’t consider TNA as competition back then. I do see what your saying though and I agree in recent years they have loosened their stance more than usual. He did support ECW but that’s another thing, he had ECW mentioned on his programming like maybe the 3 times they invaded? He just did an entire special on AEW and he ISN'T financially supporting them. It just seems uncharacteristic of Vince unless he’s up to something.

^^ similar things happened initially with aew too. Cody Rhodes is still listed as Stardust in the alumni section lol.
Something/someone definitely changed his mind. I'm not complaining I think this is better for both companies and as a fan of both companies (and too many others lol) I'm going to reap the benefits. But yeah, something changed the dynamic because this would not have happened a year ago.

But yeah, something changed the dynamic because this would not have happened a year ago. I would HOPE the WWE would understand it’s position in wrestling isn’t going anywhere at this point and use it’s power to stop putting the wrestling world out of business rather elevate it and make it flourish again. They have put EVERYBODY out of business and this is where it got us, 1 company remains & they can’t cater to everybody like they thought they could. Wrestling was never better than when there was something for everyone, when a guy would jump from 1 company to another you had an instant star. Sometimes it was a good thing when WCW was winning because fans would go watch WCW and that would give WWE a chance to collect themselves and come up with something equally as good or better and reclaim those fans. At least they were still watching wrestling though! These days, when WWE stinks, majority of fans stop watching wrestling all together. It’s a lot easier to pull a fan over from WCW to WWE than it is to have a fan watch that isn’t watching wrestling at all. If you don’t believe it, go watch the Philly WWE shows in the 90s and you’ll see the ECW regulars in attendance. Just because they preferred ECW doesn’t mean they didn’t still buy tickets to other shows, WCW included. The wrestling world as a whole was healthier that way.

in the grand scheme of things, wwe isn't worried about AEW, but I think it's like when there's a new kid in school - WWE sees that AEW is doing some things right, such as the ppv buyrates and some of their 'modern' approaches, and sees an opportunity.
by doing this, it's the equivalent of recognizing AEW for its success and instead of trivialize, condescend, or damage it, they're more interested in learning it's game so they can adapt and perhaps influence aspects of their business in proved viable ways.

Great episode.
In terms of Sports Entertainment, yeah WWE will never have competition because no one else wants to do sports entertainment. In terms of wrestling? AEW is serious competition, as seen by their weekly ratings defeat of NXT (WWE's wrestling show) forcing NXT to change days. I doubt this episode will give AEW any more viewers though, as Jericho fans already know about AEW and sports entertainment fans probably tapped out after 15 min.
