Let's say in 97 RVD leaves ECW and goes to either WCW or WWF
Who do you think he has more success with?
I can't see him going anywhere in WCW due to NWO storyline
Likely would have been in crusierweights and feuding with Gurrero
WWF I could see him getting a IC title run but it wouldnt have been the same RVD. More toned down I feel like, which we saw when he eventually joined

Neither if I was to give an honest opinion. I think RVD staying in ECW was the best choice he could have made.
WCW would have never put him anywhere near anything, he’s too big to be a cruiserweight and too small and not hopped up on steroids to reach even mid level. He probably reaches a Johnny B Badd or Rey Mysterio level but he wouldn’t have gotten any kind of push.
WWF he might have made it to the IC title at some point but being in the “Shawn Michaels era” no one would have been “allowed” to outperform him so he would have politically been buried even worse than he was during his early 2000 years.

He would have been misused in both. RVD came in at the right time...

Hard to say as I don't think he would have been pushed by the higher ups. Though, he probably would have had a better run with WCW considering they had a larger cruiser weight division and he could have had some amazing matches with those guys.

From what I remember hearing though, RVD did sign with WCW in 2001 but WCW closed so RVD never even got to wrestle one match.
Fast forward a few months when he debuts as part of the ECW faction with Tommy Dreamer.
Now I don't know how true that story is, I just remember reading it back in 2001 on some wrestling websites.

Eric revealed on last weeks 83W Rob was at the top or his wishlist for when WCW relaunched. Never got far enough for negotiations but interesting to think about

Gotta agree on the staying in ECW as the best bet, if anything he might not have been as over in 1997 WWF, and it always sounded like they tried to hinder him creatively and the roster at the time wasn't the best, unless he was working with the top guys and it feels like they wouldn't have put him with them.
Although I would have loved to see RVD Vs Bret, Owen, Pillman, Bulldog, HBK, Taker, Austin, Foley.. I actually would have liked to see RVD and Phil Lafon have some more matches since the one they had in Japan is amazing.

In WCW? Cruiserweights division and pretty much it. In WWF? Released by the next year.
