Yambag Jones and rkmo: Autonomous Meat Shield like this

I ran the numbers last July, and with the WWE releases today, it seemed like a good day to run the numbers again. This isn't meant to bash any one company for lacking in any department. It's more a way to look at AEW numbers compared to other promotions, and see where they stand relative to the amount of time available. Basically, the idea is to see kind of how "full" the roster actually is. Take it all for what you will, I just like numbers.
Current AEW Numbers: These are based on people on the official roster page only. There are obviously some tiered dark "stars" that aren't on the official roster page, i.e. Bear Country, Varsity Blondes, Diamante, Kilynn King, etc. I can't count them because we don't know the exact number of tier 0'd people, etc. This was not a situation we had issue with last year since the whole Dark 'revolution' was pretty new then. It does throw a wrinkle into the numbers here, but I can't really think of a good way to account for those people that makes sense.
Male Stars: 75 males, 15 tag teams. So 30 tag team wrestlers, 45 singles. I did not count 5 & 10, or Page/Sky as tag teams since they haven't really become official teams. I tried to stick with teams that have made sustained tag team runs.
Female Stars: 22. This number includes Awesome Kong & Mel, who I'm really not sure the status of. Likewise it includes Emi, Yuka & Riho, who are both now back in Japan again. That said, given the amount of dark "stars" that are female and definitely under some form of contract, the number likely ends up pretty similar to this anyways. (King, Diamante, Price, Wrenkowski, Gracia). I believe all 5 are under some form of tiered deal).
Total -- 82 or 97 depending how you count tag teams.
~6 hours of programming/week. 2 Hours of Dynamite + ~4-4.5 hours of Dark per week. I know Dark is a youtube show, but it still draws better than Impact so I think it counts here. This will increase by 1 hour when the 2nd show starts, but we also don't know the length of Dark & Dark Elevation when touring resumes, so this number is pretty fluid.
WWE:
Raw (3 hours) : Male -- 36, 5 tag teams. So 26 Single, 10 tag team. Women -- 13
Smackdown (2 hours) : 23 Men, 4 tag teams (counting the Usos even though 1 hasn't been there in forever). So 15 single, 8 tag team. Women -- 8
NXT (2 hours): 38 Men, 8 Tag teams. 22 Single, 16 tag team. Women -- 17.
Total (7 hours + main event/205) -- 63 Singles men, 17 tag teams (34 people). Women -- 38 Total -- 118 or 135 depending if you count tags as 1 or 2.
Impact (2 hours) Male -- 36, 3 Official tag teams. So 30 and 6. Women -- 10 women. (This number will increase by 3 shortly, as Ellering, Wilde, and a mystery 3rd arrive on the roster page) . Total 40 or 46
Using tag teams as 1 person:
AEW = 13.6 Wrestlers/Hour
WWE = 16.9 Wrestlers/Hour
Impact = 20 Wrestlers/Hour
Using tags as 2 people:
AEW = 16.2 Wrestlers/Hour
WWE = 19.3 Wrestlers/Hour
Impact = 23 Wrestlers/Hour
Obviously these numbers leave a lot of things out. They don't factor in who's sitting in catering. They don't factor in being on Dark vs. being on Dynamite. They don't account for the rando's that show up on impact or the contracted people in AEW that don't have official roster spots (It's not a small number).
However, it is interesting just to look at, and see where everything stands in the industry. In light of the cuts, it gives you an idea where the rosters are, where they are lacking, etc. AEW has the highest concentration of female wrestlers/hour, and tag team wrestlers/hour, whereas Impact has the "deepest" roster in the sense of trying to make it onto the screen in a 2 hour show. They also tape monthly, which changes that compared to taping weekly (wwe) or bi-weekly (current AEW).
Just neat to look at, that's all!
