Anyone remember why he left wwf in late 1996? Was there plans for him to a solo run in wwf?

Yeah he was never going to go anywhere as a bodydonna.
Glad he got the chance to showcase his talent in ECW. Underrated in my book

Guys like Candido were never going to be WWE guys unfortunately, just like Shane Douglas. They go elsewhere and showed how capable they were as performers. WWE had them in just DUMB gimmicks. Dean Douglas was basically Matt Striker. Now think of Striker and how you can’t picture him as anybody but the school teacher gimmick...because he’s never been anything else really. That was Dean Douglas. Dean Douglas goes to ECW and became a pretty bad ass wrestling heel. What a shame had we never gotten that and his legacy was just the damn teacher. Just goes to show you how radically these guys can transform themselves with proper creativity. Same goes for Raven.
Sometimes WWE is a crutch, in the case of Candido, he was better off in ECW.

The only advantage of Chris Candido being in the WWF in 1995 - 1996 was that HBK got to be with Sunny in an intimate way behind Candido's back. I remember hearing stories of Nash and Hall waiting in the hall to spot Chris to stop him from going in the locker room where HBK and Sunny were busy having a "moment".
I do know Chris showed back up in 1997 on Raw to wrestle someone in the ECW vs. WWF feud though.

There was interest in him going back to Wwe in 99, but he choose WCW instead probably because they were interested in Tammy too where Wwe didn’t want to bring her back.

The narrative that he was better off in ECW is an interesting one considering he basically worked there for free and had Heyman max out his credit cards and put him in debt by having Candido front money for the guys travel that he never got back.

Creative wise haha. I don’t think anybody would work in ECW for money. Personally, I would have just done what WWE asked and kept cashing my checks but in Candido case, he wanted more so good for him on that.

He was tired of being around HBK banging Sunny. And I don't believe one second that he didn't know what was going on. Sunny was passed around quite a few people in the locker from. The Kliq basically pimped her out for various things.
