I think it had a lot of hype going into it because it was the first "Surfer" Sting Elite that was being released and it had a disappointing snarling head that many people weren't impressed by. It also had the Batista torso which many people also didn't think was appropriate for the figure. Edit: Also forgot about the plastic jacket that came with it and how it had no other accessories despite it having a premium price point for a DM. Doesn't help that a few years later a regular Elite Sting would also come out with both a jacket and a belt as accessories. didn't this DM replace someone I want to say NWO Hogan, maybe that's why it felt rushed Nope Hollywood was supposed to be later in the line.

Ultimately its just the torso...I swapped out the torso with the Austin/Bulldog torso and kept everything the same and I think its one of the best figures made. It seems like many of the WCW guys received the same treatment of oversized torso and the thin legs. GAB ‘90 & GAB ‘91 Sting, Harlem Heat & Ron Simmons.

GAB ‘90 & GAB ‘91 Sting, Harlem Heat & Ron Simmons. and in all 3 mentioned they used that same torso...I just personally think its an awful torso outside of Batista and even then I think there are better choices. Its strange to think Harlem Heat uses Batista & John Cena torsos when neither guy was that ripped/big. You could have literally put both in the Austin torso, adjusted height to make Booker smaller and then changed arm styles for each and they would have been great.

It was a figure that didn’t have a chance in a pre-Ultimate Edition world. If they made it now as an ultimate with a realistic torso people would like it

Maybe attire choice. Surfer Sting is more known for colorful attire and to get a patriotic one as his first figure that wasn’t much different than the Jakks RSC exclusive that was available on that site for the longest time isn’t what a lot of people wanted. This is 100% it for me. I definitely understand that this attire from GAB is important in Sting's career. But that was ONE night. I don't want this ONE night to be on my shelf for 1000s of days, everyday I look at it. Why not this attire when other one-off attires are good? Because Sting is not Hacksaw Jim Duggan. His character is not U.S.A. Brouhaha that needs to be immortalized in red, white, and blue now and forever on my shelf. I wish they picked an attire more representative of his character: something neon or fluorescent. However, with all mistakes mentioned above (large torso, chicken legs, etc.) I was glad they made these errors on U.S.A. Sting. 👍

For me I didn’t care for the scan. I understand what they were going for as the GAB 90 poster has him doing that expression. It just wasn’t a good idea in figure form. Sometimes a normal non-smiling expression just works better. Thankfully they figured it out, but then only gave one more Elite Surfer Sting after that. It’s been said many times. Surfer Sting should have had as many figures as Savage and Warrior.

I think most people were unhappy with the attire choice -- and wanted a more colorful green, pink, etc. Surfer Sting...

its maybe the worst elite they've made imo. Uses the 6'6 320lbs Batista torso for a guy thats 6'2 250. Has skinny little legs. Weird boots. Terrible overbite face with a huge head.
the hair is good. Nearly everything else about it is wrong.

This figure warmed hard. I remember Kmart having tons of them. When they eventually got rid of them I saw him again at outlet stores lol

I think the figure gets far too much hate... yes, it has strange part choices and the likeness isn't quite there - but it's still pretty cool, IMO. And I love the attire choice (it was my most-wanted Surfer Sting, actually).
If they'd have used the other (Network Spotlight) Surfer Sting head - and included the WHC title, I think the figure would have a much better rep.

It's a good figure, but that big vinyl jacket sucks. Makes it hard to do poses and such.

For me it was the candy shell disguised as a jacket as his sole accessory, limited deco (Accurate yes, so not necessarily Mattel's fault), first run had the wrong boots (Eventually fixed), really nothing read to me as a premium release. When a standard Elite (E62) smokes a premium figure in almost every way except maybe packaging, you failed.
Only thing that made it a defining moment was the actual event

Only thing that made it a defining moment was the actual event To be fair, they had to make the jacket from scratch for the DM figure - which would have eaten up quite a lot of the budget. Whereas with the E62 figure, they could just re-use the pre-existing mold/jacket and keep costs down... probably why they could include the WHC title too.

Head is too big Likeness is off Boots are inaccurate (first run) VERY solid rubber jacket My biggest issue - goes for Ultimate Maniacs Warrior as well - A Defining Moments price tag when its a regular Elite at best.

It's a poor figure. The plastic/rubber jacket offers no flexibility for poses. The boots are inaccurate and the head scann is not great. It was a standard elite figure as were many of the later defining moment figures, the early defining moments figures looked better.
