...references to the past?
Even though the Benoit/Triple H feud was close to perfect in 2004, anyone find it weird that it was never played up on television that Benoit and Flair had once been aligned in the Fourse Horsemen? Would've been perfect in my opinion since Evolution was supposed to be a new Horsemen anyway. I'm guessing either they did play it up a tiny bit and I'm forgetting, or the E didn't want to acknowledge something they didn't create. It's weird when they ignore the past. The JBL/Undertaker feud could've mentioned their past in the Ministry stable as well, but no dice. What are some other clear openings for references to the past you can remember, where WWE skipped right over doing what would've made sense to do?

I dont remember them mentioning the four horsemen ever when benoit was still alive I don't think Horsemen really became a thing to WWE until it was nearing the Flair retirement or post retirement. I know they did the DVD which I think was 2006 or 2007 but it really wasn't until years later that they started bringing up Horsemen with Flair's legacy.

The buildup to HHH vs Undertaker for Wrestlemania XXVII never mentioned that they wrestled each other at Wrestlemania X7. They couldve told how HHH wanted revenge 10 years and a reign of terror later, but just announced the match with a point to the Wrestlemania sign, Undertaker throat slash gesture and a HHH crotch chop.

When Eddie & Chris fought for the inaugural US title in WWF. It was never mentioned that they both held the strap in WCW. Also there was that time creative forced Cryme Tyme to say Euros was the UKs currency instead of pounds.

Was coming in here to say that. Ignoring their excellent WM17 outing baffled me. I think it was because he was the biker then...

Crazy that a character that Vince loved and protected like Taker, he’d just ignore that version even tho everyone knew it 100% happened.

They have done this for eternity. It's not a few things here and there, it's all the time.
They just CBA to acknowledge the past because that's too much effort in the storyline/script writing. It's always the past 3-5 years that counts.
For the past 15+ years, they employ a load of failed soap opera writers who aren't wrestling fans, so of course they don't know the history.
I've said this many times, that WWE needs a Kevin Fiege type - a guy who is like an encyclopedia of knowledge and can recall important facts/relationships or more. And have a roundtable of wrestling fans who know the characters/wrestlers inside and out so they don't instead make guys act out of character/read off a script that makes no sense....

The biker gimmick wasn't vinces idea, so that may be why he doesn't acknowledge it, like he does to wrestlers careers in other companies.
