You know what made this, and many moments from this era, great? You didn't have the internet spoiling the surprises. If this had happened at anytime in the last decade plus, the story that Hall and Nash had left the WWF and signed with the WCW would have been everywhere, ruining the whole story of were they sent by Vince to take on/destroy WCW.

The beginning of the NWO was so good and legendary that it caused people to put up with the absolute crap they put out for the next few years after. Like the first six months of the NWO were good and then the rest was just the same thing week after week after week. Anyone that had any momentum at all either joined the NWO or got squashed except for Sting and DDP. I mean Jericho fought hard to not be in the NWO but I mean it hurt him because he never did anything beyond the middle of the card no Matter how over with the fans he was.

Honestly I know the Internet was pretty new but I was one of the lucky ones back then I guess with Internet Access and I still was scratching my head with what the real story was and I was fully aware of Hall and Nash's situation.

I remember watching this Nitro on a Saturday. In Ontario, Canada, a local TV channel somehow aired WCW Nitro every Saturday at 1 pm, but only one hour of it. So they would edit it to put in what fans had to see.
I was a bit shocked that Steve Doll vs. Mike Enos was needed for me to see. I had no idea why. Then I noticed Razor Ramon walking to the ring from where the fans were. I legit thought Vince sent WWF guys there to go after WCW. I was only 15 years old at the time too, but still, this looked very real to me then.
And all these years later, it still holds up as looking legit real. One of the few things WCW did right, and I believe it was probably an accident that it happened that way too.

WCW was going to have Hall walk down the isle and go to the ring like wrestlers from the company normally would do, but, Zbyszko heard about that and told them no, you can't do that, Hall has to come from the crowd. If you send him out the entrance way and to the ring like a normal wrestler it will look like he is part of the company.
I agree, the way they started the NWO was just terrific. It kind of got stale in late 97/early 98 when anyone who was hot at the time joined them. They should have kept the group a small faction and made up of guys who had been in the WWF previously; Hogan, Savage, Hall, Nash, Perfect, DiBiase, Vincent, Rude, Syxx, etc. Steiner and Luger were good addition too. But guys like Muta, Chono, Konnan, Norton, Buff, and Sting never should have been members.

Oh I agree about the NWO being watered down later on.
It should have always been, "if you worked for the WWE, you are NWO" and that would have made the most sense. They started using NWO as a way to make a wrestler heel. "Oh, we need to turn Bagwell heel?? Put him in the NWO!" Bagwell could have been heel without the NWO.
Hogan, Hall, Nash, Syxx, DiBiase, Vincent, Steiner, Wallstreet, Luger, Beefcake, Boss Man, and such were okay for NWO guys. Even in 1996 when Jeff Jarrett came into WCW he should have been NWO then. Having Konnan, Bagwell, Giant, Sting, Inferno, and other random additions just killed the NWO at the end.

Definitely agree. The only WCW guys that should/could have been added were the fake Sting so they could do that storyline that turned Sting into the crow. And the Giant, if I remember correctly, the story they told about the Giant joining the NWO was because that was the only wrestler in the WCW that Hogan truly feared, so the NWO offered him spot instead so Hogan wouldn't have to face him.

I remember watching that episode like it was yesterday. Exciting stuff... always reckoned Bret was going to be the 3rd man because he'd been off WWF TV for even longer than Hall & Nash.
The angle started so well it's incredible to look back on. Also amazes me that batb 96 done less buys than 95.
The nWos roster should never have expanded beyond
Hogan Hall Nash Giant Vincent Syxx Savage Hennig Steiner Disciple Bagwell Steiner Muta
I kinda understand & don't mind Konnans inclusion but Bryan Adams? Horace? Stevie Ray? Jesus lads cmon...
Later when it split? Nash & Hall should have been allowed form their non nWo version of the Wolfpac with the guys they wanted...IE NOT Macho, Luger & Sting 😂😂
Hart, Luger & Sting should have remained enemies of the nWo.
Flair should have been allowed recruit Luger & Rick Steiner into a new version of the horsemen to go on equal footing with the nWo like suggested by O Sullivan. They would have been represented as WCW loyalists & took the fight to them.
But y'know...Eric & Hogan

Cant forget the Nash promo 2 weeks later. Just overall good stuff with the shock failure there ten fold.
Best NWO stuff was definitely 96/early 97.

Great stuff that would turn into mindless bullsh** within two years and then continue to get worse for two years after that.

Hogan, Hall and Nash are the greatest stable in the history of the business.
They completely changed the game.

It would have been stale as f#ck with that crew within a year. Syxx got injured & Hall went on the sauce leaving you with Hogan & Nash? The takeover concept needed more than 5 guys. They went WAY too far obviously with recruitment in the storylines & behind the scenes. Bagwell & Steiner developed well within it. Savage added to it as well. Vincent needed to be there as the guy the faces get to pound on while Hogan & co escaped.

Adding Henning and Steiner and those guys watered it down and made it stale almost as quickly as they were in the group. That was the fatal mistake in the NWO was adding the entire WCW roster.

Totally disagree about Steiner. Hennig was misused within the group but was the calibre of wrestler they were targeting as an elite group of invaders

It was perfect when it was just Hogan, Nash, Hall, Ted, Giant, Waltman & Vincent. There was never any need for more men than that. Eric I could live with but the more bodies the more watered down it became.
