He stopped because of his neck issues. He had to get surgery so decided that was it as far as managing goes.
Afterward he became a broadcast journalist full time and was a damn good one at that!

He stopped because The Coach John Tolos was just that damn better.... said no one ever.
I wish that Heenan had stopped at SummerSlam 91 to be honest. If he stopped the same night Mr. Perfect lost the IC Title and knowing Perfect was leaving wrestling for a year then too, it just would have been great. I hated the fact that Heenan stopped managing after Wrestlemania VII and Perfect had John Tolos as his manager. It just didn't gel.

Perfect would've been better off going solo than switching to Coach honestly. Heenan could've even managed from afar until Summerslam. Hell bring back the Genius but Coach wasn't a good pairing.

Coach with the Beverly's didnt gel as well. Genius was def a more better fit.
In the end though, his run wasnt long so I'll give it a pass but man was it a sad day when Bobby stepped down.

Good point, I don't know why they didn't wait to keep them together until Summerslam but I guess Mr. Perfect's injury wasn't as bad just a few months earlier.

Good point, I don't know why they didn't wait to keep them together until Summerslam but I guess Mr. Perfect's injury wasn't as bad just a few months earlier. I believe the reason Heenan stepped down after WM7 was because his neck was really bothering him and he couldn't be physical/interact with the faces in matches anymore - and I believe he was just tired of the road and traveling. As for why Heenan didn't stay on and leave after Perfect dropped the belt at SummerSlam, it wasn't known at that time that Perfect was going to take time off after that event. Perfect hadn't been hurt yet so at that time Perfect was still going to wrestle past Summer Slam 1991. If I remember correctly, Perfect hurt his back after WM7, sometime in the summer, he could have dropped the belt at a house show but stayed on to drop the belt to Bret at Summer Slam 1991. I think, had they known earlier that Perfect was going to need time off after Summer Slam, Heenan would have stayed on as his manager until then. He probably wouldn't have done anymore house shows as the manager, just live TV matches as Perfect's manager. I believe Vince wanted Heenan to manage Flair when he first arrived, Heenan spent two weeks on the road with Flair and said no thanks, it was too much to handle. That's when they brought Perfect back to be his executive consultant.
