I always was a fun of "the Model" and was thinking...when do you think the best time would have been for him to be IC champ?
He didn't really need a belt but let's just say he got it
When would the best time have been
I say he should have gotten it vs Razor in taht one on one match in 1993. Martel could have won by grabbing the tights and Martel could have been champ but then lost it vs Razor in say 1994 Royal rumble which would have led to Razor winning it then that kicks off teh Razor Shawn feud

Winning the tournament in ‘90 would have been a good place. Although I can’t fault them for propping up Mr. Perfect at the time.

I think the best time for him would have been any time between 1990 and 1994. If they did the tournament for the IC title earlier, just after WM6, he could have won it there, then lost it to Tito who could lose it to Mr. Perfect. Sadly, I think it would have been a short run. To me, Perfect was probably the best in-ring guy at the time and he really needed a run with the IC Title. Another time could have been after Summer Slam 1991. He could have feuded with Bret Hart, instead of the Mountie, he could have beaten Bret at Tuesday in Texas 1991 or Royal Rumble 1992 then drop the belt back to Bret at WM8. Though, that would have meant Roddy doesn't get a run with the title. But I agree, the best time would have been in late 1993, he beats Razor for the title by cheating then loses it to him at RR94.

It would have been a nice "thank you" run before he ultimately left next year but I think his star had fallen since 1990-1991. I think he lost every singles PPV for a few years (not counting Summerslam) and with going away since Wrestlemania time or even prior, there were better choices. Razor was the best choice. He was really getting popular and it would really make his career for the next few years.

Really wish he did get a run with the belt even if it was brief.I like the idea of him beating Razor on Raw in late 93 with him losing it to him at the Rumble. He wouldve been a classy IC Champ thats for sure!  |

The WWF should have had a TV Title that was defended each week on Superstars or Challenge.
In 1989 when Martel turned heel, him vs. Santana in a feud over something like a TV Title would have done wonders.
Look at WCW in that time fame. Would Arn Anderson vs. Great Muta or Arn Anderson vs. Bobby Eaton been THAT great of a feud if the TV Title wasn't involved?? Probably not.

That final 2 of a Battle Royal was ridiculous. May as well have just finished it with the winner getting the belt. Martel had fallen significantly by that point so yeah Razor winning was obvious. That whole battle royal deal felt like they wanted a good hand to face Razor in the Finals but had zero interest in putting Martel over others to reach a tournament final. |

Martel was on the verge of winning the belt from Bret on PTW during the Summer of 92.He had em in the crab and all but damn HBK had to come out and cause the DQ!   |

I do like that he got the TV title right before he was forced into retirement. The feuds over the TV were probably better than any other WCW title at that time.
