EDIT OCTOBER 16, 2023 - I am asking Mods/Admins to close this thread so that we can make new ones discussing each company individually. Thank you to everyone for keeping this going and making it a few years without being deleted or permanently closed/locked!
Edit: *This was formerly "The Art of Retro Figures" thread but it evolved over time into a general discussion of news, artwork, and all things from all companies!*
In this thread we discuss upcoming figures popularized by the older styles of Hasbro, Popy, Galoob, and others (pre-Jakks).
This topic is meant for nothing more than to discuss the looks of the figures and how you wish to display them in your collection.
Please no discussion involving why threads are getting locked and deleted. Please no discussion about the companies making the figures nor the people promoting it. Report any and every post that violates this community standards.
Just. Talk. About. The. Fig. Ure. S.
January 7, 2022 edit:
We made it 6 months or more without having this thread shut down! Thank you to those contributing in positive ways and thank you to the mods and admins for helping to steer things back on track.
One of our users pointed out something that is true: I have discussed things outside of what this thread was originally supposed to be about. That is hypocritical in a way. So to help clear things up, let’s try and relax those rules a bit. Personal attacks against board members and the companies/toy makers should still be avoided. Respectful criticisms should be made very sparingly if at all. Figure news and discussions about the lines should be opened up more now as I think we have reached a point where things tensions have been lowered. If they rise again, we can discuss any changes that need to be made. Thank you again to everyone and let’s keep this fun but transparent!

I love the Hasbro/Retro look, and I've got a small collection of Hasbros and Mattel Retros, but even understanding why these tend to price the way they do, it would take somebody really special for me to want to drop the money they command, and honestly, that's a short list as is. Odds are most guys I "need" figures of are going to be made by Mattel in some fashion as is.

I agree the $40 is a bit much Regarding display, I’m going to display my chella separate to hasbro just because while similar in scale you can tell they’re a different line. Same as Mattel’s retros

If it were somebody I really felt I needed, I could probably justify it. I'll swing $15 to $20 on a figure that catches my eye off-hand, but more than that and I really gotta begin justifying it in my mind, if for no other reason than to ward off the ol' buyer's remorse. The Chellas are nice, though. They definitely give that old early 90s Hasbro vibe. The Hayabusa figure comes close. Damn close.

I think Chella’s seem to be making improvements; as noted previously the Aldis had a few aesthetic issues for me. But still cool. I ordered the Meanie set & very pleased with them, especially considering I’m not that fussed on the as characters. Very cool. So I’ve preordered all the others too, as I want to support Chella for their efforts.
ZST toys are certainly sculpted well, but personally I’m going off their look. The drawings are fantastic (obviously - they’re by the OG!), but there seems to be proportion issues with excessively long arms etc. on some (similar to some Mattel retros) and not really digging Dino’s face or Earl’s likeness. So because of that, and the other obvious issues that aren’t to be discussed here, I’m way out on this line.

Of all of them from initial looks I think the dynamite looks the best.
Fits nicely with the bulldog hasbro and Matilda!

Do you think Ringside will sell any of these?

Out of the two Chella figures I have in hand, I do think the Meanie will look pretty good standing next to Hasbro figures. I think some of the Mattels also blend in pretty well with the Hasbros. As someone who has more than their fair share of customs, I don’t mind mixing my collections together. But, also as someone who hasn’t actually displayed any figures in a while and all of these opinions of mine are just from in hand comparisons, what do I know? LoL. Even if I had all of my Hasbros (Retros and Chellas included) displayed, I don’t think I’d separate them between lines. But, I do understand why some would prefer that.

Hope this and the long arms will be fixed for series 2.

Remco is my favorite retro style. The Major Bros action figure podcast has figs in that style but they’re extremely overpriced and pretty much produced exclusively for their fans. I wish Mattel would do em using the MOTU molds. You can convert most of the MOTU WWE figs into wrestling figs but I want it’s own dedicated line. I wouldn’t mind seeing BCAs make a comeback too.

Agreed, while I didn’t have remcos growing up I had motu and I love that style. I actually considered getting the motu wwe figs which can be converted but even then they have the bracelet things. A genuine remco style line would be epic

I have a couple of Remco figures. Definitely not something I had as a kid (I got in at the Hasbro level), but they're nice figures for their age. I've got a Scott Hall and a Baron von Raschke. I'd love to have the WrestleMania 35 set of Ryder and Hawkins, but there's definitely no way I'd be able to get in on that or justify the likely cost to myself.

Remco style I would think are cost effective to produce too.
I mean you need what:
4 styles max for the whole line (‘naked arm, arm with elbow pad, arm with wrist tape, arm with both)
3 styles for leg (with and without knee pads) and tights
The only real non reusing of parts or cost would be in the heads.
Motu were masters at reusing parts

I’d probably spend dumb money if Super 7 got the WWE license to do reaction figures and made legends:
Probably good they don’t considering how much they run.

Sadly I haven't gotten around to getting any of the Remco figures I want, don't know how I'd feel about Remco style. No real nostalgia attatched to them.

Right, right, that one. The head sculpt on that was really good, but those figures were just so damn unremarkable.
