I have a “man cave” so to speak where I display my Moc collection among other wrestling memorabilia....we recently found out yesterday that my girlfriend’s youngest son may be coming to live with us, her oldest son & his girlfriend already live with us & have our extra bedroom....I volunteered to give up my space to her youngest because family comes first which brings me to my question....does anyone else here find themselves losing interest in collecting when everything has to be stored away in boxes?? .....I’ve been in this situation before & I’ve found that I lose interest in buying & collecting because I develop the mentality of “why buy it if I’m just going to pack it away” or “what’s the point of collecting if I don’t have a space for display”

You are doing the right thing. I’ve gone through periods of disinterest.
Every moc I ever bought just goes into a box in storage. I don’t really buy anything anymore but I’m happy to know I’ve got what I have.
(….I am gonna NEED that Warlord.)

Of course!
Who wants to spend $20 at a time just to take something out of a box and put it in another box? When you display them, at least they are providing you value after you buy them.
The only advantage to continue buying them when you aren't currently displaying them is the hope that you will display them again in the future and it will be amazing. I'm kind of in that situation now. I have room to display about 60-70 figures but I have over 500 different characters (that's not even including different versions of characters or different outfits) so I have boxes and boxes full of figures in the closet just sitting there and getting squished. One day I'll have an epic display but who knows when that will be.

I'm an MOC collector too and I know what your saying. I'm looking at trimming down significantly as well. Much of what I have is on shelves all organized but not really displayed. I pick and choose what I display so lots just sits on shelves.

You made an excellent point there about still buying them to maybe display in the future.....the last time I was in this situation I just stopped collecting altogether but I also made a few horrible mistakes by selling some of the figures I had in storage, then one day BOOM I had another space for display & I realized right then, when I had to pay outrageous prices to get back the Moc figures that I had sold just a year or so earlier, KEEP EVERYTHING ....major lesson learned there so if what I have now goes into storage they’ll stay there until they’re covered by the sands of time before I sell anything again

I have five 200 quart tubs full of loose wrestling figures (maybe 10 MOC) that I've been collecting since 1985 LJN. When I buy a figure, I take it out of its box and place it in a tub. When I met my wife 10 years ago, I had them displayed in my apartment. After we moved in together, they were put in the tubs. I think after years of debate, I will be able to buy a bookshelf to display some of them. It just sucks not to be able to enjoy them. I still have the itch to buy figures so I may as well display them.

I don't mean to get into your personal business but I would not worry about collecting at this point considering all the free loaders your gf is bringing into your house. How many people are you expected to support including her son's girlfriend of all people. I would be proud of my collection and start dropping some strong hints about other people getting a job.

This was totally uncalled for; what he chooses to do in his personal life is his business. If he doesn't think he's being used -- and he considers them family -- back the heck off. His 'girlfriend' could be a really long term relationship.
Even if you're trying to be funny, it's not.

Nah I don't lose interest. As long as you have somewhere to safely store everything until you display it again it shouldn't matter.
You can also consider opening up your collection to reduce space? Maybe there's somewhere in your place for a couple IKEA Detolfs with loose figures.

Until he shares it online with others, then he makes it other people's business ... But I think the OP should just do whatever he feels is right with his collection. We are (mostly) adults here. I imagine we all value collecting and we all value our families. Some may rank one higher than the other, so whichever the OP ranks higher cool so long as he is happy.

Even if you store it away for a while when you finally do get to display them again you'll feel like a kid at Christmas taking them all out and looking at them again. You'll probably have a greater appreciation for them.

FYI my girlfriend is actually my fiancée....her oldest son & his girlfriend both have jobs, buy their own food & help pay bills...her youngest is only 14....my advice to you sir is don’t run your mouth about someone’s personal business because it’s none of yours & you don’t know what you’re talking about ...stick to the question asked thank you very much

I’m not helping Mattel/WWE as I don’t make many purchases at all. I lost interest about a year ago or so because the product, as a whole, isn’t directed towards me. My kids don’t care and haven’t in a very long time so the money I spend is for my own personal interests with the Legends line. Then you eliminate the Legends that don’t make sense to me and the time between figures I will purchase, we’re talking $40 a year. That’s losing interest. And that sucks, too, because I don’t want to see it fold but I don’t care for the product.

You need to expect and accept ALL feedback/comments when doing so. If not, then you shouldn't post your "personal business" in a place where everyone and anyone can comment.
