I wanna be nitpicky with this guy and point out to him that the TNT title is absolutely not a mid-card title, and a big part of Cody's arc has been proving exactly that. But yeah, that Cody = HHH/JJ narrative fails when it comes to putting guys over. |

Man, what a great episode last night. Definitely an all-timer imo. Helped by being the first touring show of course, but they capitalized on it big time. All 5 matches delivered.
Andrade definitely looked a bit rusty, but that's to be expected for how long he was off TV. (October 12th. 9 months without a t.v. match, and I think this was only his 2nd actual match since then. That's longer than the Bucks layoff going into original DoN where they played up the ring rust story like crazy against Lucha Bros. Pretty fair to be a bit rusty). Even then, he had his moments. Sydal worked his ass off in that match too.
Statlander finally doing her 450 in AEW was awesome. I'm guessing she's gonna run up and be the challenger for Britt at All Out. She talked in her unrestricted podcast about Kenny making her save the 450 for the right time. First time back touring feels like a good time to bust that out. Nailing it on Blade made it even more awesome.
Tommy End has arrived. Man, I just can't get over that. That pop was insane. Now the speculation on the arc:
He's gonna run through the nightmare family on his way to beating Cody at All Out. Destroying Lee, Dustin, etc. In a couple cases, absolutely obliterating them. Some will be real matches, and some may be absolute destruction. One of those destruction cases: Brock Anderson. Arn already alluded to feeling like Brock wasn't ready in a "shoot" interview that was clearly a kayfabed comment setting up the potential split from Cody. Having his son get destroyed by Malakai Black trying to avenge Arn. Might be the fuel to get that Arn/Cody split coming. Where Arn/Brock goes from there, I'm not sure, but I'm excited to see. Brock looked great to me so far, and I'm super excited to see what he can do long term.
Might be too early to run that story, since the obvious payoff is Brock beating Cody, but again, Brock looked pretty good in the ring, maybe he's more ready to do that than we realize.
Obviously they could also just have black destroy Cody right away as a way to let him go on a longer paternity leave, but I don't think Cody and Brandi want to be away long, they'll just take baby with them I'm guessing. Cody can disappear for a bit on his leave while Black runs through the rest of the family. Don't need him there every week to do that, and it also can help fuel Arn's displeasure with Cody.

My point in the TNT title not being a mid-card title is part of that. If it's a mid-card title then its less significant for people like Darby and Brodie beating Cody for it. Having it be a big deal like the AEW championship makes those wins even more significant, furthering the fact that Cody does in fact, put people over when it matters in a big way. I.e. I'm being nitpicky with that to give those people even less wiggle room. |

That AEW deal came together FAST. I don't know when he did the original interview for this, but his saying "wait 3-4 weeks and put this part up when it happens" makes me think that AEW deal was done almost immediately. Cool that he already planned to release the vignette on debut day. Whether or not you like the Malakai Black lore is subjective (and not critical to enjoy him in the ring), but it's cool either way how committed he is to that level of character planning.

just watched it start to finish, and that's gotta be one of the absolute best dynamite's. their production had their crap together too.
main event was huge, black's debut was huge, omega/page showdown was immense.
I'm gonna miss Omega as champ if Page succeeds.

Man, the more I sit on it, the more of an all timer last night becomes. For how stale nightmare family vs. factory was getting, that strap match was great.
Aleister black is in aew. I still can't even. Man. So many great matches to come. The day Aleister and Mox go face to face is going to be amazing. Aleister/Kingston should be unreal as well.

It seems to be a very big trend that any given weeks rating is an indication of the prior week, except for super special shows like Mox/Omega etc. I fully expect next week to be a decent increase based on blacks debut |

I’m very disappointed this actually went down in viewership. Not by much, but still. It seems to be a very big trend that any given weeks rating is an indication of the prior week, except for super special shows like Mox/Omega etc. I fully expect next week to be a decent increase based on blacks debut Its going up against game 4 of the Finals(hopefully the Finals finale) so Its gonna be having a lot of competition next week but after that things should start getting back to normal and ratings should improve. |
