I am in the middle of reorganizing my toy room and realized my WWE Mattel figs have gotten out of control. It got me thinking what I would have done differently after over a decade of collecting this line. Here’s what I have came up with: 1. Do not buy anything past Attitude Era
I think if I woulda made these rules and stuck with them I would have a more manageable collection. If you could go back and set strict rules for yourself at the start of this line, what would they be? The only rule everyone should follow.

Wouldn’t have bought modern day figures. Would have bought a lot more doubles of legends.

Surely it would be to start in January 2010,and buy tons of the figures that became really expensive later on, then make a mint.

I would do one thing and it’s the opposite 1. Buy every figure period. This is the way. Like a year ago I started buying anything that I even just kinda wanted, because the aftermarket prices seem to never go down. There are countless figures in my collection that if I tried to get now would cost likely triple what I paid in store!

When I began collecting Mattel (about 2-3 weeks into Jan of 2010 when I found "Basic Series 0" Jericho in purple), I put limits on myself in regards to modern talent: no more random guys who were new just for the sake of it. I only wanted to buy the new guys I liked a lot and limit my duplicates of the regulars, main eventers, and going forward the legacy talent that came later in the year and beyond. I mostly stuck to it, though after a full decade+ of Mattel, you can't help but have a large collection even if you're modest as I am compared to other more serious collectors.

If I could go back…. I’d buy the certain figures I could’ve got for a decent price years back.

If I could turn back time, I would go way, WAY back.
Forget just going back to Mattel, I would have gone back to the Attitude Era itself.
First thing I would have done was, in 2001 when I finally had my own checking account, I would have bought one of those MOC LJN Vince figures I kept staring at online. They were only about 100 bucks back then and I will forever regret not buying one.
Then, fast forwarding to 2003, I never would have stopped collecting. I would have sucked it up and continued being a fan the rest of the way through the RA era and kept collecting figures.
All those years I spent hording cosmetics I would have spent hording figs. The whole way through the RA Jakks line and eventually onto Mattel, I would have been collecting.
Granted, had I done that, I'd probably have nowhere to put them now. I barely have room for my collection as is, I'd have to weasel my way into a 2-Bedroom place if I had been collecting for that long. But still, I wish I had never gotten out of collecting wrestling figures in 2003. There's so dang much I've missed over the years that I don't think I can ever get ahold of now.

I'd go back to this one time when I was at my buddy's toy shop and he had one Hulk Hogan Elite 34 mint in box marked for 70 bucks. As we were talking some guy asked if he could see so my buddy says sure and hands him the box, while that guy is looking at the figure another dude walks up and says I will give you 90 for it as the other guy was still checking the figure out LOL So the other guys says I will give you 95 lol and all of a sund a bidding war breaks out, long story short the dude that walked in bought the figure for 160 bucks!
I'd go back and try to outbid the dude that walked in and bought the figure for 160 bucks!

Would've gotten a job a mattel, somehow made it to the top, fire Bill, and hire someone one else completely unbiased when choosing to make wrestlers.

I wouldn't have opened then sold my Elite 1-18 set. I wish I'd have kept them boxed, same as my Defining Moments and Legends. Too be brutal, I wish I'd never taken breaks and gone back to Mattel as much because I probably would've saved a ton of money. Plus, if I'd have kept my stuff sealed and sold them now, I'd be rolling in the money at the prices they are these days.

I succeeded with not trying to have a complete up to date roster, and then only buying Legends as they came out. I would have purchased the complete Legends sets (skipped Pillman, Steele, JYD, Hillbilly Jim) and gotten RSC nWo and Wolfpac Macho Mans, Macho King, and Pink Bret Hart.

Good thread.
I've only been collecting non-Ultimate Warriors for a few years, so I don't really think about going back with WWE figures.
I will say I try to have rules, though, and I mainly stick by them, though sometimes I slip.
I stick to Legends I grew up with and current stars I like with only one version for current stars. The duplicates I've bought had a new or better head sculpt and/or belt.
If it doesn't look good to me, I pass. Rusev is a good example of this; he was one of my favorites after I started watching wrestling again, but the head sculpts were all bad in my opinion and I still don't own a Rusev.
One thing I would go back and change is no impulse buying at Walmart or Target just because I happened to find figures. I don't hunt much anymore, so it's exciting to find new Elites in store. More than once I've bought some because they were there and looked cool but weren't anyone I'd planned on buying.
