Most people say that the Attitude Era ended on April 1st, 2001 at WrestleMania X7 when Stone Cold Steve Austin sold his soul to the devil (JR's words, not mine). But watch Rumble '02 and WrestleMania X8, they are very much Attitude Era shows. If fact I'd consider Mania X8 the end of the Attitude era because 8 days later the brand split started, which is the true kickoff of the Ruthless Aggression Era. The only difference between Mania X7 and X8 is that the Invasion had come and gone between them (which long term only effected the size of the roster). Stone Cold's heel turn changed f*ck all, by the end of '01 it was over. if anything Undertaker's heel turn effected things more than Austin's did from a storyline standpoint. From a storyline perspective the Attitude Era ends at Mania X8. Now if you wanna talk TV ratings or sum sh*t it may be a different story. But in terms of on-screen, all of '01 and Q1 of '02 was very much the Attitude Era just with some roster additions.

I've always felt WM18 was the end of the AE too. That's when the get the f out stuff & all started.

I can completely see and respect that argument. I think it all comes down to our own personal tastes, for me the Attitude Era starts the night Bret Hart shoves Vince and swears on RAW and then ends at WrestleMania X7.
The Invasion and stuff leading up to the Ruthless Aggression period for me had a ton of stuff that I loved, but I consider that to be a kind of transitional period.

Austin turning heel with Vince ended the Attitude Era. Everything after WM17 through to the end of June 2002 I consider the Invasion era. Between the Alliance storyline and the NWO, it all started and fizzled out during that time.

I have the attitude era ending at wrestlemania x7 with WWF purchasing WCW weeks prior, stone cold turning heel and the rocks last day as a full-time wrestler on the road. The rest of the year would be a transitional period with a botched invasion angle and I would say HHH coming back in 2002 ushered in the ruthless aggression era.

Ended after X7 & coincided with the onset of one of wrestlings worst ever angles. It's hard to associate anything Invasion with the AE. The period from April 01 to June is an interesting post Attitude Era time however.

I’ve always considered the name change to have kind of kicked off the RA Era.

I always felt the eras when like this...
WWF Rock n Wrestling era was from Hulk Hogan winning the WWF Title in Jan. 1984 and ended at Wrestlemania 2 with Mr. T and Piper having their big boxing match
The WWF Golden era went from that moment until fall of 1992
The WWF New Generation era went from Oct. 92 when Bret Hart won the WWF Title to Survivor Series 97 when Bret Hart lost the WWF Title
The Attitude Era started on Raw in December just a month later when Vince said so in his speech about 'no good guys or bad guys anymore' and went to Wrestlemania X8
Ruthless Agression era started just months later with Vince's speech on Raw after Austin walked out of the company and went until summer of 2008 when Jericho vs. HBK was the last match where we saw blood in that someone actually bladed during the match.
After that it was PG Cena era, or Reality era, or whatever era it is now.

If you can divide eras to phases it was different phase to me it was still AE; but the invasion had little RA seeds growing. Transitonal end of the AE during the Invasion. I always slit in the RA into 02-04 05-08 as other phase
