Couldn’t find an actual article about this (I guess it’s from his newsletter that you have to subscribe to), but Meltzer is saying a huge name is set to come to AEW in September. As much as I dislike Cornette’s take on AEW, this is at least a piece of media I was able to find that discusses it:
Some are thinking Bryan, some Punk. I would think Strowman would also be possible. Would really love to see one of the first two, and either would be a humongous shot in the arm for the promotion. Who do you think this might be? Lesnar is also mentioned in the above clip. Who are you hoping for?

That would almost have to be Bryan out of those options. It's never gonna be punk, and to an aew audience Tommy end is 10* the star power of Braun, something both Khan and Dave are well aware of. Not saying Braun couldn't show up sometime too, just that he doesn't fit the description

‘Huge name’ worries me. Big Show and Mark Henry were technically huge names based on how they’d seem to never leave WWE, so right off the bat I fear it might not be a wrestler. In terms of wrestling I feel like when the huge name is telegraphed it’s usually a disappointment. I love Kurt Angle, but I could see it being him, which wouldn’t add much. Even if it is a wrestler I’m nervous. I found Christian to be a disappointment, and Matt Hardy did nothing for me.. Nevertheless, Black was my dream acquisition, so everything else is gravy from now on.
Giving the benefit of doubt I hope it’s Bryan, and the thing that makes me think it could be is that WWE dropped him from all future projects. I still feel like that would be too good to be true. I hope I’m wrong, because that would be cool as hell. Also, what about Okada? It could be temporary, and he’d be a Huge name for AEW fans.

^^ If it's not Bryan, my only other real guess is someone from Japan, but I don't know whose contracts come up when there. Okada would actually make a lot of sense right now, though I can't imagine it being him. Much like you Bill, Black showed up and now I'm too happy to be remotely worried about this being a dud.

Ffs enough Cornette
If Meltzer reported it, provide a link.

Judging from the latest big surprises in the past year from Brodie Lee, Matt Hardy, Aleistar Black, Big Show, Mark Henry and Christian Cage..... I have to say that this "big surprise" won't be shocking or big in any which way.
A big shocker would be for AEW to get Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, John Cena, you know.... someone with main event credibility and star power to them.
If Daniel Bryan showed up, it would be cool for one week. Then we would see how badly they screw it up like they did with Christian Cage's AEW run so far.
The only shocking cool thing AEW ever did was have Kenny Omega take the AEW World Title to Impact Wrestling. Then they botched that too.

Ffs enough Cornette If Meltzer reported it, provide a link. I switched to just the straight youtube show for Alvarez after Meltzer had Bruce Mitchell on, so I don't hear WOR anymore. That said, I found a couple comments from people who still listen to WOR saying that Dave had said on it he felt/had heard/whatever that something big was coming for the Arthur Ashe show, and that it would be bigger than Andrade. Again, if people spin that into being Punk or the Rock, etc, that's kinda on them.

Man they’ve gotten a lot of WWE midcarders though. Andrade, Aleister, Rusev, it is reminding me a lot of TNA. Hopefully it lasts a lot longer, because the matches have been really good.

Man, I love the surprises but I'm so bored of Punks name being at the forefront of speculation.
Hoping for D-Bry, or B-Dan... AmDrag? There's a whole host of talent let loose out there right now so it's exciting to see what happens. As long as its an active wrestler not someone for behind the scenes stuff.

Meltzer is a mega mark for AEW. Whoever comes to AEW aren't going to move the move the needle and bring new eyeballs to the product. A casual fan doesn't know what AEW is but knows what WWE is, AEW has their mega hardcore fans. CM Punk would have ended up in AEW from day one but he doesn't want to be another guy on the roster and Bryan Danielson has been silent since his deal was up with WWE and if he ends up in AEW he would have just a guy on the roster. Something is telling me that Bryan resigned with WWE and nobody is talking. Braun Strowman said that he wouldn't work anywhere but WWE but with Mark Henry in AEW maybe he'll put in the word to the money mark aka Tony Kahn.

Something is telling me that Bryan resigned with WWE and nobody is talking. He very well could have. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Bryan show up in NXT soon like Balor did. I'm sure there are plenty of NXT guys he'd love to wrestle/wrestle again.

Well for one, how about not feuding with Matt Hardy.
That reeks of WWE. And if AEW wants to be different, try having Christian wrestle AEW homegrown talent.

I would prefer a series of matches between Christian Cage and Sting actually. I don't want to see old WWE matches in AEW. I want to see old TNA matches in AEW!

I want to see old TNA matches in AEW! if we got some type of big e/apollo feud from cage and hardy then i'd get your point, but they're former nemeses with reasons to battle it out on an episode of dynamite. wasn't a ppv feud, wasn't dragged out, and put the right guy over.
