I recently dug up some of my old Jakks Ruthless Aggression and TTL figures, and it made me start reminiscing about my childhood memories with said figures, and all the crazy things I used to do with them. Heck, even now when I do my current day version of my figure fed, I do some wacky things! I’ll share a couple of my favorites here. Feel free to post your own funny storylines and/or memories from your figure feds!
-Say what you will about who you think the greatest heel of all time is, but no one even comes close to Bubba Ray Dudley’s heel turn in my fed. After The Dudleyz lost the tag titles, Bubba was super pissed, and was getting increasingly more frustrated as he and D-Von kept losing matches in screwy fashion, with D-Von trying to help Bubba keep his cool. After the screwy losses kept piling up, Bubba eventually snapped, and brutally assaulted D-Von, writing him off “TV” for months after he put him through several tables and ladders, guillotined him with multiple chairs, and ended it with a Bubba Bomb off the titantron. But Bubba Ray, now renamed Bully Ray, didn’t just stop with his attempted murder on D-Von. He brutally assaulted the referees, the commentators, other wrestlers, even fans at meet and greets. Kayfabe was alive and well during this Bully Ray run. He almost won the world title during this run, but D-Von returned and cost Bubba the title, leading to a Hardcore match between the two at the appropriately named PPV, Armageddon. D-Von did win that match, though just barely. After D-Von “knocked some sense into” Bubba at the PPV, The Dudleyz eventually reunited, and just pretended like his monster heel run never happened.
-Once upon a time in my fed, I had a “Legends Title” of sorts. Basically just an excuse to keep using the figures for the older guys like Hogan, Warrior, Flair, etc. Anyway, Hogan was the inaugural champ, but he eventually dropped it to Warrior. After the title saw a few more defenses and title changes, Hogan eventually won it back, except this time, I gave him a NEW heel gimmick, where his whole gimmick was that he was a pro-Trump sympathizer, who’d cut over the top racist promos (parodying the scandal in 2015), talk about building a wall, etc. He was a mega heel in my fed, and he actually kept the belt for a good while before Shawn Michaels beat him for it (who’d ultimately end up retiring along with the belt after a brief feud with Triple H). After he dropped the belt, I turned Hogan back into his usual “Real American” face gimmick. Trump Supporter Hogan was controversial as hell in hindsight, but hey! I was younger and it wasn’t like it was being televised! (PLEASE NOTE: I apologize if any of you take offense to this. I want you all to know that I am far from a racist, and far from a Trump supporter. I merely did this as a parody of what was going on in real life at the time).
-I repackaged Trevor Murdoch into a singles death match wrestler with the nickname of “The Murdocher” (play on the word “Murderer”). Now, despite the funny name and his murderous intent being a bit over the top, The Murdocher was a monster heel in my Hardcore division, injuring people left and right in brutal hardcore matches. He even won the Hardcore Title and had a pretty lengthy reign with it (no 24/7 rule) until he dropped it to Mankind in a brutal barbed wire steel cage match at WrestleMania (I used red washable markers for blood, and I literally covered Foley, Murdoch, the cage, and the ring in “blood” by the end of the match). His feud with Foley will always be memorable to me. The promos for it were hilarious for how insane they were. The Murdocher spoke in similar tone to Heidenreich.
-One gimmick that I kept for many, many years was the stipulation of “If you pissed somebody off backstage, you had to face the consequences in the ring”. What were the consequences, you may ask? Being put in a tornado handicap match with Rikishi and Yokozuna! I mainly did this just to punish the guys I didn’t like or were already jobbers to begin with. In kayfabe, it was the GM’s way of dealing with backstage drama. He’d put the guy who was annoying people backstage in a match with two behemoths who did nothing but power moves, stinkfaces, and Banzai Drops!
-At one point, I had a title in my fed that I legitimately called the “Paper Championship”. It was basically the 24/7 title years before the 24/7 title existed. It was held by all the jobbers and comedy wrestlers, though JBL did hold it at one point, even though he wasn’t a jobber. I think he lost it to Jim Ross in a shocking upset after Steve Austin hit the Stunner on JBL. Earl Hebner won it from Vince McMahon, ironically after he locked Vince in the Sharpshooter and called for the bell (despite Vince not tapping) to declare himself the champion, in true Montreal Screwjob fashion. Earl was the last champion before the title was “retired” (I just stopped using it).
-And finally, one of the lastest things I did was have Kevin Owens and Bayley co-host “Ding Dong, Hello! It’s The KO Show!”. As you could probably guess, it was my way of combining two of my current favorite WWE Talk Shows into one. It was a fun and harmless segment, until Sami Zayn interrupted in order to complain about the conspiracies aGAINst him, just like how he does in real life. Zayn was/is feuding with Owens over the US Title. Eventually, both Bayley and KO got fed up and both hit their finishers on Zayn. And then, in true Steve Austin fashion, KO hit the Stunner on Bayley before leaving the ring. But don’t worry! Bayley got a win later in the night by squashing James Ellsworth!
