Love going to collegiate and pro sports events here in the US when I can, but have never really even looked into where to start, as far as potentially attending the Olympics. I’m sure tickets are incredibly expensive, but would be a really amazing thing to see up close and in person. I know my dad does have a first cousin who went to the Games in Australia in 2000, though. Has anyone here ever attended the Olympics?
I know the number of folks here who have attended isn’t going to be huge, but if nothing else maybe some friends and relatives of members have gone. Guess we shall see.

Tickets to the '96 games in Atlanta averaged $40, some significantly cheaper, some exponentially higher. You pay by the event. You'd probably pay a f*ck ton more for opening and closing ceremonies than you would for like...fencing or something.
A major city near me was one of the US bids for the 2024 games, and I'm so glad it fell apart. It was basically going to expand far beyond the actual city limits into suburban areas right along my commute and just make everyone's life a living hell for the summer.
The torch for '96 came through my town, and that's about as physically close as I ever want to be to the Olympic games. The IOC is a three ring circus.

Crowds have never done it for me. Tried when I was younger to get into watching them on TV but never can be truly invested. Broke off after hearing so many stories of how these grand events are put together in most places, the politicking and grift, so many cut corners made to keep on schedule, the financial hole all that infrastructure necessitates, then just letting it rot to disrepair, the displacement of local residents, the treatment of the athletes, etc.

Not into most of it. I'd have absolutely went to see the dream team play, but not this crop of wannabes losing to France. I do low key think gymnastics is kinda cool, but I wont watch it on TV let alone in person because I'd feel like a creep.

My Aunt And Uncle went to some events in Atlanta in 96. They went because my Uncle did consulting work for UPS and they are headquartered in GA and they sent them tickets as a thank you
