Yikes...£63 customs fee for me! I'll probably have another one to pay when my second one comes...am I the first UK person to get theirs? Can you tell me how you were notified about the charge, was it a letter and did it breakdown the charge etc ?. I've been tracking it on Parcelforce. On there it mentioned about revised customs fees being applied but didn't say how much. They usually send a letter but when the tracking said that it was at my local depot, I just went along to try if they'd give me it or not as they hadn't even attempted delivery yet. I didn't ask for the breakdown, I was just pleased to get it, but yeah over £60 was more than I was expecting too!

The hmrc rate for usd imports for September is 1.1822. 264.95÷1.1822=224.13÷100×20=44.83 gbp for twenty percent vat plus 12 gbp handling fee from parcelforce = 56.83 gbp. Would seem the customs declaration for declared value is higher then what was paid possibly.

No. Future crowdfunds will be negatively impacted by resellers' inability to turn a quick profit on this one. Mattel's difficulty with the shipping, processing, and the delayed announcing of the next set will further compound the problem (frustrated buyers who haven't yet gotten their sets perhaps choosing not to purchase the next one). For all the tiers, this project only met 106% of it's goal, whereas Galactus (140%), Proton Pack (127%), Cobra H.I.S.S. (167%), Victory Saber (131%), and Sentinel (137%) all exceeded their tiers to a much larger degree and with much larger overall volume (and many at higher price points). Like it or not, Mattel needs resellers buying the product to insure it gets funded. How this one has gone makes it less likely that group will purchase as many of the next one. You say “no”, but what’s the solution then? I get everybody’s frustration in seeing other people receive items before you, but this is exactly how every action figure Kickstarter/ crowdfund has gone since they started. In fact, this might be the only crowdfund I can think of with no significant delay at all. Mattel doesn’t have a problem with the shipping process, it’s the customers who do because they can’t fathom the logistics of it and think 8000 giant boxes can be shipped in one day. If people have a problem with how this crowd find has gone, I highly recommend never doing one again ever, because this went as smoothly as it could ever go. Not at all having a go at you good sir but I believe Mattel could have done better in regards to shipping these out. 8000 cartons in a day definately not but 8000 across say 2-3 weeks is not unusual in any logistics operation especially with a years notice. I have still not had 2/3 sent out. Disappointed however I will still back in future I just know now what to expect and it is not completely off putting.

Both my sets now showing: "Retained at distribution office : awaiting payment - addressee contacted" If, as appears, Mattel have split-up my single order of two arenas into separate boxes then that's an extra £12 handling fee that wouldn't have happened if they'd sent the order out together as one, like I ordered them. I've got another order of two rings that I've yet to hear about, so if they do the same again then that's another unnecessary £12 handling fee, with the four Machos yet to come - this is going to be very expensive.

Indeed; I'm hoping that is reflected on the value on the label, but until they start to arrive we won't know for sure.

Still not that simple considering people chose different shipping options. There are probably limits on how many packages each carrier will take per day, especially considering the size of the package. Then add how many each carrier decides to move once it’s in their possession. Not all of it is on Mattel. I’m sure there was a plan, and it’s being executed to the best of anyones ability.

On the tracking, mines says it's being held at the depot but I've had no official contact telling me where that is or how much to pay. Did you get an email or text? So I just showed up at the depot and asked if they'd go look for it, they weren't going to until I mentioned that I think there is a customs fee to pay, then they went looking and got it. It really is awesome to finally have it in hand!

So I came home from work this evening and one of my sets had arrived! I'd received no updates since I got an email a couple of weeks ago saying it was preparing to ship. I was very surprised.

If people have a problem with how this crowd find has gone, I highly recommend never doing one again ever, because this went as smoothly as it could ever go. The no was an answer to your question. The reality is that there is no solution to the underwhelming short term resale market when Mattel is planning to announce the next set in the midst of those underwhelming returns. It was a significant tactical error by Mattel to not have funded the next set during Comic Con, given the lower resale prices and the ongoing shipping delays. It's really about the impact on how many future sets end up being backed by those resellers. Anything that makes it less likely that people will back in the future is bad for Mattel (and us) in terms of there being more crowdfunding projects. That's particularly problematic when the margin for hitting all the tiers is so thin. If even 500 fewer units are sold of the next one (assuming the same tier set up) then all the tiers won't unlock. It's a precarious state for the future of these.
