I know this is really lazy, but could someone post the number for Mattel please? Another UK order stuck in Gambia (one piece only) so going to be very disappointed. Also going to be great fun trying to get a refund to an alternative card as the one I ordered with the account is shut down! Over a year wait for no product, gutted. Question for the UK members who have recieved Custom Charges on their New Gen orders.
Have you tried to appeal against the charges, and if doing so is it actually worth doing or would it be a waste of time?
Reason I ask is the charge of £63.50 most have got seem a little high. Considering you are allowed up to £135 in goods before a charge is applied. The ring was $250 with $15 postage, I think I paid around £195-205 in total. Reason I ask this is when I did a exchange calculation on Pay Pal $265 worked out at £234.
Could the charges be wrong as they have clearly calculated them on todays exchange rate rather than the exchange rate when we actually paid last August 2021.
Could this be something looking into or am I just blabbering nonsense?

If hmrc applies the USD rate for September being 1.1821. 264.95 declared total ÷ 1.1821 = 224.13 gbp. 224.13 ÷ 100 × 20 = 44.83 gbp rounded up. 44.83 + 12.00 parcelforce fee = 56.83 gbp in total to pay if shipped direct from the USA to UK. I believe customs were applied in Belgium so that would be in euro and the rate there is 21 percent. That could be the answer to the higher increment. Although I don't know why we'd be paying belgian vat, someone out there that could explain that ?. |

Still no tracking info and still no sign of the ring. Contacted Mattel directly through Twitter and they couldn't help either Rang them twice - no help Mailed 8 timed - no help. Utterly disgusting customer service. Is anyone else in same boat? Same! I literally cannot get hold of anyone. I’ve had no contact from Parcel Force either. |

Your pounds were worth so much more than the American dollar in August 2021. However, since Mattel only adds $250 as a value on the customs form, the current Pound/Dollar rate is taken. But you paid much less for the product back then, but the customs authorities don't know that. To make that CLEAR. In August 2021, for $250 you paid £180. Today you are currently paying £220 for $250. That's a huge difference. However, the customs authorities take the current rate, which is your disadvantage because the customs authorities only see the value of $250. Your customs costs would actually be significantly lower. You have the right to appeal to your customs authority to submit the actual amount paid. I'm sure you still have your credit card statement or other evidence. But the effort will probably be too high for many. And no, you don't pay the Belgian customs duties. You pay the customs duties in your country, in this case the UK. |
